Hogsalt, a Chicago-based restaurant group run by Brendan Sodikoff, is seeking a Safety and Security Manager. The Hogsalt group includes Au Cheval, Bavette's, Gilt Bar, Ciccio Mio, Doughnut Vault, Gilt Bar, Green Street Smoked Meats, High Five Ramen, Armitage Alehouse, to name a few.

The ideal candidate is highly organized, can work independently and as part of a team, has experience in the field and managing others, demonstrates the ability to multi-task and prioritize and is able to uphold both Hogsalt standards, and their own.


To be successful, this candidate must be able to communicate clearly, hold others accountable for adhering to procedures, maintain flexibility in scheduling while working outside of the normal 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. hours, and be able to travel when needed.


This person must have an ability to handle sensitive information and maintain a high level of confidentiality. They must have a passion for providing an exemplary customer experience and enjoy working in a fun, fast-paced, professional work environment.


Job Duties Include (not limited to the following):

  • Be the main point of contact for safety and security concerns and assist leadership with providing resolutions.

  • Create a safe and welcoming environment for guests and employees at all locations.
  • Train and mentor a team of security specialists that will support our teams, guests and restaurants.
  • Provide safety and incident-prevention training for the company, including training for all managers in the Manager in Training program.
  • Establish consistent safety standards and procedures on how to handle dangerous situations such as theft, robberies, aggressive guests/employees, threats of violence, workplace violence or weapons found on property.
  • Escort staff members to their vehicles, within reasonable distance.
  • Regularly patrol the restaurants, grounds and perimeters.
  • Examine doors, windows, and corridors to determine that they are secure.
  • Assist with guest problems and complaints.
  • Ability to stand outside, 8+ hours, in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs, push/pull up to 250 lbs.
  • Ability to kneel and/or bend at the waist.
  • Create and implement store evacuation procedures.
  • Create a company security program to protect the organization’s assets and employees.
  • Create and implement a point-based risk assessment walk-through for all stores and complete regular store risk assessment walk throughs.
  • Review assessments with the Executive Team to address common issues.
  • Complete unannounced late-night store check-ins to ensure adherence of all safety and security practices.
  • Conduct post-incident and/or accident review of events including review security surveillance and speaking with employees.
  • Be the liaison with the local police department and attend beat meetings to maintain an ongoing relationship.
  • Stay up-to-date on and communicate community safety issues to the stores such as theft, robberies, and acts of violence.
  • Ensure thorough and complete investigations for situations that involve theft, accidents and acts of violence.
  • Review and save video footage for all guest or employee related incidents.
  • Assist in review of all background check reports.
  • Lead by example at all times and in all areas by displaying Hogsalt values.
  • Attend meetings, communicate to necessary leaders, track and follow-up on action items.
  • Reports directly to the VP of Service and Operations.


Experience and Qualifications:

  • Must have at least 3-5 years of recent experience in a related role.
  • Previous military, law enforcement, loss prevention or security experience is a plus.
  • Professional and confident verbal and written communication with guests, employees and ownership.
  • Open availability, including nights, weekends and holidays.
  • Ability to efficiently organize workload and adapt quickly to changes.
  • Valid guard card/license in Illinois.
  • Possess intermediate computer skills.
  • Ability to handle and investigate crisis situations.
  • Ability to identify problems and solve with or without direction.
  • As a condition of employment, employee must successfully complete a background investigation
