Analyst II

The purpose of this position is to perform a wide variety of analytical duties in support of an assigned group or unit; to perform a variety of analyses, studies, and research projects as requested by higher level staff; and to participate in administrative and financial processes.

Essential Job Functions -
the basic job duties an employee must be able to perform:
  • Collect and organize data from databases, spreadsheets or external sources
  • Analyze and interpret data to identify patterns and trends
  • Develop and implement data analysis best practice techniques
  • Ensure data accuracy by conducting regular audits and performing quality checks
  • Create ad-hoc reports to answer specific operational questions or specific concerns
  • Identify opportunities to improve data collection and analysis processes
  • Prepare weekly or monthly reports to support different functional areas
  • Effectively communicate findings to management and other stakeholders
  • Serve as a liaison between the 3rd party software provider and the City
  • Work with the systems data configuration, oversight, and testing, identify areas of improvement and execute system enhancements
  • Review and reconcile data within internal and external construction projects, Tax Incremental Funding Agreements, Economic Development Agreements, and similar incentives and tax refunds due
  • Perform a variety of public relations and taxpayer assistance through and educational means such as online classes, instructional guides, and FAQ’s
  • Oversee website content, and occasional backup for sales tax technicians
We are looking for candidates who demonstrate:
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service
  • Ability to learn and apply pertinent City policies and procedures
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships


This position requires a resourceful individual with a high degree of independent initiative, excellent communication and organizational skills, the ability to prioritize and multi-task, and an exceptional attention to detail.

Successful candidates will have

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in a field appropriate to assigned area of responsibility which may include finance, business administration, public administration, human resources, criminal justice, procurement, occupational health, or other research-intensive field
  • Three years of full-time professional analytical experience specific to area of assignment
One (1) year of the appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for each required year of post-high school education.

Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements.

Ideal candidates will also have

  • Experience working in local or state government

Additional Information

The City of Colorado Springs offers additional compensation depending on the position, area of assignment, and specific job assignments, including shift differential, pay differential, acting or lead, special assignment, hazard pay, longevity, cell phone allowance, uniform allowance, relocation, awards, standby, call out, compensatory time off, tuition, overtime, extra duty, incentive, holiday premium, proficiency, and vacation sell back.
