Brief Summary of Work for this Position
The primary purpose of the Senior Assistant Director of Admissions Diversity Initiatives is to recruit highly qualified and diverse high school and transfer students, evaluate applications for admission, meet with students, parents, and community college advisors and represent UNCW in the community. This position will leverage the skill, expertise, and space of UNCW’s cultural centers, existing diverse student body, other campus units, and community organizations to strengthen recruitment efforts, cultivate a sense of belonging for prospective students during the recruitment process, and bridge recruitment and retention efforts for underrepresented students.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
- A Master’s Degree is required. A bachelor’s degree plus alternative or equivalent professional training and experience may be substituted for the advanced degree on an exceptional basis.
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience
- 3-5 years in college/university admissions is preferred.
- Proficiency with marketing and communication plan development.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- At least two years of experience supervising staff.
- Proficiency with lead generation companies and services.
- Spanish language oral proficiency preferred.
- Valid Driver’s License and US passport (or ability to obtain one) required.
- We seek candidates who have a team-oriented outlook, analytical and organizational skills, adaptability, a high energy level, a positive and professional attitude, as well as first-rate writing and public speaking skills are essential.
- Demonstrated experience in collecting and analyzing quantitative and qualitative data.
- A proven track record that demonstrates exceptional skills in organization, communication, marketing, management, collaboration, interpersonal relations, and the ability to effectively manage competing, conflicting demands.
- Proven record of building strong and positive working relationships with peers and diverse groups and organizations.

Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
To recruit, admit and enroll students who will perform successfully in the collegiate community. Daily contact with the public, including contact with professionals in all university disciplines, is involved. Telephone contact also involves an accurate knowledge of relaying Admissions policies and procedures set forth by the University and the Office of Admissions. The office engages in a wide range of activities designed to publicize and describe the programs, activities, and other opportunities available at UNCW.
