Job description
Pie is building a Claims Department where data, analytics, and technology will play a key role in achieving our goal of making small business insurance as easy as Pie. Reporting directly into our Director of Claims Data and Analytics, our Senior Business Intelligence Analyst will have a combination of strong technical skills in data analysis, data visualization, and predictive modeling, as well as a vast understanding of Property & Casualty Insurance claims. Initially they will focus on working with our data engineering team to build the data infrastructure necessary for analysis. This is a rare opportunity for an analyst to strongly influence data collection, storage, and organization from the ground up while ensuring that data documentation is accurate and complete. As the claims department matures, the Sr. Business Intelligence Analyst will focus on using predictive modeling to analyze growing data patterns. Pie is an incredibly collaborative team with constant communication and in this role you will have the opportunity to work with various stakeholders and team members.
How You'll Do It
Reporting
- Extract data for ad hoc requests and larger projects
- Build, maintain & enhance dashboards and data visualizations to provide the business with self-service, actionable insights
- Work with management to develop key performance metrics to track and review at regular intervals
- Use data to drive decisions that improve strategy and success
Analytics
- Perform Exploratory Data Analysis on new data sources
- Analyze data to identify drivers of claim outcomes, investigate ways to reduce claim payout, and improve the operational efficiency of the claims department
- Benchmark claim department results against external data sources
- Perform statistical analysis and predictive modeling
- Evaluate and help implement models from predictive modeling vendors
Data Management
- Ensure data definitions and data lineage are appropriately documented
- Develop requirements and data mappings for Claim Data Warehouse
- Develop subject matter expertise on claims data and become the go to SME on all key data sources
The Right Stuff
- A Bachelor's Degree (coursework in Statistics, Economics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Data Science or other related field) or equivalent experience is required; Master's Degree is preferred
- 4+ years of experience performing data analysis in the insurance industry is required (Level and salary will be adjusted based upon skills and experience of candidate)
- Comfortable with Statistical Programming Language and experience with one of the following: Python (Pandas and data analysis packages), R, SAS, SPSS, Stata
- Experience with SQL programing - preferably in a Cloud environment
- Business knowledge and the understanding of property casualty insurance claims process, preferably with exposure to Workers' Compensation and Auto lines of business
- Ability to draw meaningful insights from data and perform statistical analysis
- Experience with data visualization tools such as: Looker, Tableau, or a similar tool
- Strong data presentation skills, including building out reports and dashboards
- Comfortable with ambiguity and can navigate complexity; able to direct work and provide analysis even when limited information or inputs are available
- Demonstrated ability to multitask and meet strict deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Advanced Microsoft Office and Google Suite skills with the ability to quickly learn new systems and technology
- Strong communication (written and verbal) and organizational skills while maintaining a strong attention to detail
Base Compensation Range for position: $100,000 - $140,000

Location Information
Unless otherwise specified, this role has the option to be hybrid or remote. Hybrid work locations provide team members with the flexibility of working partially from our Denver or DC office and from home. Remote team members must live and work in the United States* (*territories excluded), and have access to reliable, high-speed internet.
