About the Communications Team:
As part of the Precinct One Communications Team, you’ll be on the frontlines of the important policy issues facing our community and nation. You’ll work alongside a large and innovative team focused on serving our constituents and advancing key policy issues through effective and persuasive content, and strategic and savvy media strategies. We work every day to build consensus for policies that advance racial, social, and economic equity, primarily in the areas of affordable and quality health care, criminal justice reform, economic equity, and opportunity, voting rights, affordable housing, and environmental and climate justice.

About the Senior Communications Coordinator:
The Senior Communications Coordinator will have a unique opportunity to work on all facets of our Communications department. As the Senior Communications Coordinator, no two days will be the same.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Organizing and executing large-scale media campaigns around key issues.
  • Developing and maintaining a content calendar to guide efforts across the Precinct One media platforms.
  • Developing timely, helpful, and engaging written and visual content for social media posts to educate the target audience on Precinct One activities and programs.
  • Track, measure, and report on social media content analytics and metrics.
  • Monitor and respond to comments, questions, and concerns posted on Precinct One’s social media pages.
  • Assist with virtual community engagement meetings, internal communications, online inquiry submissions, and other communications efforts as needed.
  • Collaborate with the Communications team to develop effective and creative graphics and visuals.
  • Attend internal and external Precinct One events to produce live content for social media.
  • Perform other duties that may be added or changed as the course and scope of the job directs.

Requirements

What you will bring to Precinct One

Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, English, Political Science, Public Policy, or a related field of study.
Experience:
  • Two years of experience working in Communications, marketing, and managing social media handles/ growing online followings
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud and knowledge of digital technology trends and online marketing strategies.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Proficiency in Microsoft software applications, including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Adobe.
  • Excellent knowledge of social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter, and management tools, such as Hootsuite.
  • Excellent knowledge of SEO, keyword research, and Google Analytics.
  • Knowledge of Associated Press (AP) style.
  • Superior organizational skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple assignments on a quick turnaround in a deadline-driven environment.

About Precinct One:
Precinct One, which largely overlaps with the City of Houston, is a diverse, urban precinct. With approximately 1.1 million residents, Harris County Precinct One covers 363 square miles. Precinct One’s multi-racial, multi-ethnic population is roughly 39 percent African American, 37 percent Latino, 18 percent Anglo, 5 percent Asian, and 1 percent other.

Precinct One stretches south to the Brazoria County line and reaches into the eastern and northern sections of Harris County. The Precinct’s territory includes a large section of downtown Houston, including the Harris County Courthouse Complex, Toyota Center, and Minute Maid Park. Other notable landmarks include the 263-acre NRG Park Complex, the renowned Texas Medical Center, Rice University, Texas Southern University, the University of Houston’s main and downtown campuses, and the University of St. Thomas. Precinct One maintains more than 20 parks, 11 community centers, numerous hike-and-bike trails, three maintenance service centers, and several area offices, all of which provide an array of services to Precinct One residents

  • Some evenings and weekends may be required
Work Environment:
  • Will generally perform duties in an office, though sometimes at external event locations
  • Occasional travel within Harris County
