You’ll be on a team of 2, reporting to the Quality Manager, and providing mentoring and expertise to a more junior Component Engineer.
As an Electrical Component Engineer, you’ll provide support to Design Engineering and various Production departments during the development, pre-production, and production phases for both new and legacy products and you’ll act as the focal point for all electronic part selection. You’ll also assist Procurement in identifying vendors for fulfilling part shortages and searching for alternative parts.

What you’ll be doing:
As an Electrical Component Engineer, you’ll provide support to Design Engineering and various Production departments during the development, pre-production, and production phases for both new and legacy products and you’ll act as the focal point for all electronic part selection. You’ll also assist Procurement in identifying vendors for fulfilling part shortages and searching for alternative parts.
Provide electronic part expertise and assess part specification requirements- Propose circuit redesign requirements as necessary to accept alternative components
- Write and review Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) for new and replacement electronic components
- Review screening and test data received from manufacturers and test laboratories for compliance to specifications
- Evaluate defective components and failure analysis reports as required; Interface internally with Hardware Design Engineers in support of risk mitigation and material review efforts
- Review Bills of Material (BOM) for obsolescence, hazardous material, and other design criteria
- Provide alternate suggestion(s) for various Commercial off the Shelf (COTS) electronic components
- Provide Diminishing Manufacturing Sources and Material Shortages (DMSMS) reports
- Identify End of Life (EOL) and Not Recommended for New Design (NRND) components and support resolution(s)
- Analyze and develop solutions to support engineering resolution associated with obsolete components
- Support Supply Chain, Quality, and Production COTS component issues
- Conduct part lifecycle analysis and enter results into Empower (PLM) tool
- Support Quality with component failures analysis
- Mentor more junior Component Engineers
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree with 13+ years of relevant experience, OR Master’s Degree with 10+ years of relevant experience
- Engineering background with a communications focus is preferred, and RF and/or satellite communications experience is a plus
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel (formulas, Pivot tables, data manipulation)
- Experience with PLM software such as Empower (previously Omnify PLM), and ability to write and review ECOs for component specifications
- Knowledge of the Government Industry Data Exchange Program (GIDEP) database is a plus
