Why does the job exist?

This position provides detailed analysis & reports for HED. The Data Analyst will work across the Department to collect, maintain, and analyze data from moderately sized or complex data sets and prepare data driven reports specific to program and/or Divisional needs. This position will contribute toward demonstrating the impact of the Department's mission and strategic goals through quantitative measures. The Data Analyst will define standard measures and data collection for use by other non-experts to improve performance and facilitate repeatability and reproducibility; perform analysis and collaborate with leadership on prioritizing; interpret results of quantitative models, identify trends and issues, and develop alternatives to support agency objectives; build and maintain analytical tools to ensure Department's monitoring ability of emerging trends; complete complex analysis using multiple methods and tools; and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to create accurate and meaningful dashboards and communicate actionable information.

This position performs the following duties:
  • Work with HED staff to analyze the effectiveness of higher education programs & policies.
  • Perform careful data analysis, & consult with HED leadership for new policy development.
  • Run various reports to assist HED programs in data reporting.
  • Develop interactive dashboards that display data trends for HED.

This position provides information for HED staff & NM constituents.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have ability and experience in the higher education, researching and processes to ensure data integrity and security for data used, and developing interactive dashboards for data dissemination using multiple methods and tools.

Minimum Qualification

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Business or Public Administration, Accounting, Finance, Economics, or other related field with five (5) years of experience directly related to position at the time of posting or related professional certification as determined by HED.

Employment Requirements

Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification within six (6) months of date of hire as a condition of continued employment.
