Johnson & Johnson is currently recruiting for a Senior Director, Head of Technology, Global Development, Planning and Quality for the J&J Technology organization (JJT). This position may be based in Raritan, New Brunswick, Titusville or Bridgewater NJ; or Spring House, Chester Brook, Malvern or Horsham, PA; or Beerse, Belgium.

The Senior Director, Head of Technology, Global Development, Planning and Quality is a skilled leader who combines modern Information Technology (IT) expertise, data expertise, an innovation approach and deep scientific and/or pharmaceutical knowledge to transform the way technology is used to scale global product development with the operational and portfolio management of those processes. This role is accountable for data/information and technology initiatives that advance the mission of the Global Development, Project Management and enabling business organizations, driving scale, efficiency, real-time observability and data science initiatives. As a strategic partner to the most senior members of the business leadership, this role will drive strategy and implementation for global clinical research, strategic improvements in real time data, observability, efficiency and the on-going evolution of our program management and reporting systems. This position reports to Vice President, Head of Technology, Janssen R&D and is a core member of that leadership team.
The key elements of this role are to lead technology strategy and delivery of products and roadmaps for the global development organization, supporting clinical trial design, planning, execution and Bioresearch Quality and Compliance (BRQC), on a global basis. An evolving capability includes working with the security implementation and regulatory teams to adhere to local data privacy laws while expanding our collaborative development efforts. An essential component of this work is the end-to-end support for clinical innovation, including data science, digital health, health technology and the Janssen External Innovation team to build world class, innovative systems for emergent modalities, therapies, diagnostic tools and product delivery mechanisms.
This role directly manages a team of product group leaders and technical leaders with global impact, assuming responsibility for technology products that span multiple business partners across R&D. For solutions at scale, they will use matrix IT organizations for solution design and development.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s level degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Information Technology, Informatics or related field is required; an advanced degree and/or professional technology certification is preferred;
- Minimum of 10-years experience in a pharmaceutical or biotechnology setting or a Master’s degree, plus 8 years related experience or PhD with 5 years of related technology systems experience in research and development technology.
- Strong research & development knowledge with demonstrated experience driving innovation for scientific, clinical, or therapy areas using digital technology and data/information science.
- Deep understanding of the emerging clinical, regulatory and quality landscapes, including statistical methods, clinical trial efficiency, design and execution, current trends in data analysis and the impact of software in/as a medical device within this landscape.
- Strong communication skills and strong relationship building and management capabilities, in a global setting is required.
- Knowledge of current and new technologies & their applicability to the business.
- Experience with product management and leading matrixed organizations, consulting with internal and external technical personnel in a fast-paced, complex, global environment is a necessity.
- Experience managing global business priorities across multiple business areas is required.
- Strong people management and development skills, including managing global matrixed teams.
- The ability to work in cross functional teams and lead and manage individuals with multidisciplinary backgrounds is required.
- Design and architecture expertise are required as is experience in the use of agile methodology, process engineering, composable and microservices architecture.
- 10-25% travel (domestic & international) will be required.
For U.S. applicants, in accordance with applicable disclosure requirements, the anticipated base pay range for this position is $160,000 to $276,000. The Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based compensation programs. Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporation’s performance over a calendar/ performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Company’s discretion on an individual basis.
