The Collins Aerospace Avionics Test Engineering organization is looking for a motivated individual to be a Senior Project Engineer leading multidisciplinary teams of engineers (including systems, mechanical, electrical, and software disciplines) developing complex engineering solutions. This leader will be responsible for leading projects for the development and delivery of test equipment solutions for the Vision Systems product lines at the Wilsonville, Oregon facility.

The Avionics Test Engineering organization is a global engineering organization responsible for the design, development, and maintenance of the manufacturing test solutions in support of the $5B Avionics strategic business unit as well as external customers including armed services and airlines both domestic and international. As a key member of the Avionics Test Engineering leadership team, the Senior Project Engineering ensures the successful execution of test solution projects from inception, through deployment to customers, as well as long-term support.

Typical vision systems test solutions include custom hardware and software designs for testing:

  • PCBA through final assembly functional tests
  • Optical clarity
  • Luminescence validation
  • Focal alignment
  • Display accuracy
  • Environmental testing (ESS)

Solutions are developed using a variety of test and measurement equipment such as:

  • Robotic stages
  • Cameras
  • Photometers
  • Theodolite
  • Oscilloscopes
  • Digital multimeters
  • Switching systems
  • Power supplies
  • Other related equipment

This is a multi-faceted role requiring versatility across a variety of tasks in a highly collaborative environment. The role requires working closely with engineers and leaders, at various locations around the globe, to ensure project success.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Lead project technical execution and maintain performance metrics for decision making and continuous improvement purposes.
  • Manage project scope (requirements and change requests) ensuring it meets agreed to commitments.
  • Generate and maintain project schedules with understood dependencies, deliveries, and critical path.
  • Utilize Earned Value (EV) methods for managing project budget (and schedule)
  • Ensure project meets quality expectations.
  • Identify risks and opportunities and resolve them through proactive ownership.
  • Prepare well-crafted presentations reporting project status to leadership teams.
  • Develop Engineering estimates and proposals for potential projects and gaining organizational buy-in.

Qualifications/Experience Required:

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience.
  • Must be a U.S. Person/Permanent Resident “Green Card” holder.

  • Demonstrated leadership traits and practices.
  • Sound technical knowledge in at least one of the following engineering disciplines: systems, mechanical, electrical, or software.
  • Ability to establish and maintaining effective customer relationships.
  • Outstanding oral, written, and formal presentation communication skills.
  • Sharp critical thinking approaches.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills to effectively execute multiple active projects.
  • Resiliency in the face of adversity.
  • Proficiency with developing and maintaining schedules using Microsoft Project.
  • Comfortable managing projects with scope comprised of numerous intricate requirements.
  • An acumen for Earned Value management.
  • Experience with Risk and Opportunity management.

Hybrid: Employees who are working in Hybrid roles will work regularly both onsite and offsite. Ratio of time working onsite will be determined in partnership with your leader. **Must reside within 60 miles of the Wilsonville, OR facility.
