Catalent Pharma Solutions in Emeryville, CA is hiring a Sr. Research Associate II. This position will be responsible for the cell-based characterization of therapeutic ADC candidates. This position will report to the Group Leader, Biocharacterization.

This role is Monday – Friday, days.

Catalent Biologics Emeryville, CA site, formerly the startup company Redwood Bioscience, has developed a proprietary approach for site-specific bioconjugation to produce next-generation antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs). This technology, termed SMARTag®, is based on use of the aldehyde-tag site-specific protein modification technology and Catalent’s novel conjugation chemistry and proprietary, stable linkers. SMARTag is a clinical-stage technology that was named Runner Up for Best Platform at the 2022 World ADC Awards in San Diego, CA. The Catalent Biologics Emeryville site comprises a close-knit team of scientists working cross-functionally with each other to nimbly achieve our goals and milestones. We are a research site, working to develop therapeutic ADC drug candidates for clinical testing. We also continuously strive to improve and expand our technology platform. The team has a focus on publishing results and contributing to the exciting and dynamic field of bioconjugation and drug conjugates.

The Role:

• Test antibody and ADC binding and internalization characteristics through flow cytometry-based methods
• Perform in vitro cytotoxicity studies to test the potency of ADCs and cytotoxic payloads
• Work under supervision to develop new and optimize existing analytical assays
• Function as a key contributing member of the Biocharacterization team, proactively communicating results and contributing to troubleshooting
• Share results and ideas across the site’s multidisciplinary teams
• Generate data to support strategic partner relationships, platform development, patents, and publications
• All other duties as assigned

The Candidate:

• Requires a Bachelors Degree in Biology, Chemistry or a related discipline with 5+ years of additional research experience; OR Masters Degree in Biology, Chemistry, or a related discipline with 2+ years of additional research experience
• Candidate must have a high degree of personal and professional integrity, strong interpersonal and communication skills, the ability to deliver high quality results, thrives in a fast-paced environment and can adjust to changing situations, providing ideas and solutions
• Must have experience with in vitro biochemical and cell-based assays, such as cell-based potency (in vitro cytotoxicity) studies, and multi-color flow cytometry for cell phenotyping, antigen quantification, and antibody internalization/trafficking studies
• Must have assay development experience and perform optimization of existing assays
• Microscopy experience (live cell, whole cell, and tissue section analysis) is a plus
• Must have cell culture experience. Experience generating stable cell lines is preferred
• Experience with primary cell cultures will be favorably considered
• Experience with ADCs and bioconjugates, including HPLC chromatographic analysis, is preferred

Pay:

The annual pay range for this position in California is $66K - 116K. Exact compensation may vary based on candidate qualifications.
