The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), and the laboratory of Scott Cruikshank, in the Department of Neurobiology, is seeking a motivated Researcher to assist in studies of neocortical neurons and circuitry. The researcher will perform mouse surgeries, anatomical processing and imaging of brain tissue, mouse breeding, genotyping and maintenance, as well as a variety of other laboratory activities. Letters of reference from previous supervisors are required. This could be a great opportunity for someone interested in pursuing a career in Neuroscience, including gaining research experience before graduate or medical school. The PI has an established record of mentoring researchers toward higher-degree programs.


General Responsibilities

Under minimal supervision:

  • To set up and perform routine and established lab procedures in support of lab goals.
  • To collect, enter and summarize data.
  • To monitor results and report unusual outcomes.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Sets up and performs routine and established lab procedures in support of lab goals. Runs assays, cell/tissue culture, animal studies, etc.
  • Collects, enters and summarizes data.
  • Monitors results; detects and reports unusual outcomes.
  • Assists in the maintenance and trouble-shooting of lab equipment and supplies.
  • Performs basic statistical data analysis.
  • Performs fundamental statistical data analysis.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Salary Range: $15.50 - $17.50 Hourly


Qualifications

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • OR Associate's degree in a related field and two (2) years of related experience
  • OR High School diploma or GED and four (4) years of related experience

Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.

Preferences

  • Degree in life science or related field
  • Prior extensive experience in a research laboratory
