Examples of Duties

Under direction, plans, directs, and supervises the Division of Community Services in the Department of Aging comprised of multiple programs providing services for seniors.


  • Plans, directs, and supervises multiple programs that include grant development, outreach to underrepresented populations and community based projects.
  • Assists in the development of Departmental goals and implements programs and program policies to support those goals.
  • Monitors and reviews the provision of services offered and makes appropriate modifications as necessary.
  • Trains subordinate supervisors.
  • Ensures that programs and services are in compliance with grant stipulations and all applicable local, State, and Federal laws, codes, and regulations.
  • Prepares and monitors program budgets within the division.
  • Investigates and negotiates sources of new or additional funding or community/business support.
  • Researches and oversees applications for additional resources.
  • Represents the Department at meetings with other agencies, jurisdictions, or business and community members.
Examples of Other Duties
Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in gerontology, recreation, education, health, business administration, public administration, marketing, public relations, nursing specialty, accounting, or a social or behavioral science

Plus

at least six years' experience providing services to older adults, three years of which were in a supervisory capacity.

Additional experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis up to a maximum of four years for the required education.

Education beyond a bachelor's degree may be substituted on a year-for-year basis up to a maximum of two years for the required non-supervisory experience.

  • Thorough knowledge of older adults and their needs.
  • Thorough knowledge of planning, conducting, and evaluating programming, services, and activities for older adults.
  • Thorough knowledge of outreach to underrepresented populations and their specific needs.
  • Skill in the provision and development of programming, services, and activities for older adults.
  • Skill in assessing the needs of older adults and their communities.
  • Skill in working effectively with older adults in the community.
  • Skill in recruiting, training, and supervising senior programming staff and volunteers.
  • Ability to manage diverse programs of services and activities for seniors.
  • Ability to develop and enhance funding for senior programs and services.
  • Ability to evaluate program spending and to develop policies and procedures to increase efficiency.
  • Ability to learn County and Departmental rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.

Salary

Annual Salary review - Step increases may be granted on anniversary date based on satisfactory job performance
General Increases - Cost of living increases and adjustments may be granted as legislated.
Longevity Increases - In accordance with the specific pay schedule, a full-time merit or classified employee may receive a longevity increase, equivalent to one step, upon completion of a certain number of years of classified service with the County.
