POSITION SUMMARY:

This position serves as a coordinating manager reporting to the Assistant Professor for the Center for Experiential Learning and Simulation in the College of Nursing and assists in decision making regarding resources for the Nursing Skills Laboratory and Virtual Simulation Center of Excellence. This position has oversight for functions vital to the education of all students enrolled in undergraduate and graduate nursing programs. This position includes assisting with the planning, and managing all functions of a multi service Center that includes nursing learning resources for clinical training skills, simulation and virtual reality. The position requires extensive liaison with faculty and staff within the College of Nursing.

Manages the daily operations of the Virtual Simulation Center and Nursing Skills Laboratory on all USF Campuses. Trains support staff and instructors in the safe and proper use of equipment and instruments. Has thorough knowledge of all laboratory equipment, and ensures all equipment is serviced and properly maintained, calibrated and operational. Receives and stores equipment and chemicals for the teaching labs.
Oversees the preparation and setup of human patient simulators, teaching labs, materials and reagents to perform laboratory and training exercises.

Ensures the proper assessment, identification, collection, organization and processing of course related materials and supplies through interaction with faculty. Determines the need for equipment, furnishings, non-routine supplies, special items and service/maintenance contracts for the unit. Has working knowledge of all equipment. Coordinates the scheduling and use of the simulation center, equipment, and resources by faculty and students, and maintains detailed records of such use. Maintains operational records and files. Responsible for safety in the teaching labs and assists the director in the development and implementation of rules and operating procedures. Ensures that laboratory spaces comply with appropriate health and safety regulations. Ensures all necessary forms are completed and maintained to remain in compliance with USF's policies/procedures governing the use of University equipment.

Consults with faculty to evaluate teaching lab needs, exercises, improvements on current experiments, teaching methods, and equipment and instruments. Performs and evaluates new experiments prior to their adoption by laboratory classes. Assists in designing and preparing demonstrations for lecture classes. Consults with the director on new equipment and instruments, and works directly with vendors and other university personnel (such as Medicine, Physical Therapy, and Pharmacy) in the preparation of bids and requisition to obtain them.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

MINIMUM:


This position requires a Bachelor's degree in a field related to the discipline of work, and one year of related experience; or any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved, to total 5 years. Related disciplines include:
Medical Simulation
IT/AV/ Computer Firefighter/Paramedic

Healthcare
BioMedical or Health Sciences

Surgical Technology

Some positions may require Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist (CHSOS) certification or obtain CHSOS certification within one year of employment

PREFERRED:


Three years of experience in health care field; previous experience working in a university health sciences setting; previous experience working with patient simulators
