Central State Hospital (CSH), a 277-bed Joint Commission accredited inpatient psychiatric facility located in Petersburg, Virginia, is recruiting a Social Worker. Central State has been providing quality care and treatment to the citizens of the Commonwealth continuously since 1870. It serves Central Virginia for Civil Admissions, while its Maximum Security Forensic program serves the entire Commonwealth.

Central State Hospital is seeking a qualified Social Worker to plan, organize and implement a range of social work services that are person centered and recovery focused to patients admitted to Central State Hospital.

This position will assist with Civil Admissions, case management discharge planning, benefits allocation, and supportive counseling. Services rendered will be collaborative with patients, their support system, interdisciplinary treatment teams and community agencies.

Minimum Qualifications
This position requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work

The selected candidate must have comprehensive knowledge of social work theory and practice. Understanding of the functioning of hospital/community mental health systems. Ability to form therapeutic relationships with patients, their support systems and community partners. Demonstrated skills in interviewing, documentation, communication (orally/writing), problem solving, case management and collaboration with other professionals. Ability to perform duties at a fast pace with frequent change. Knowledgeable regarding NASW Code of Ethics.

Preferred Qualifications
Prior experience working in an inpatient setting with individuals with mental illness is preferred.

Special Requirements
An extensive criminal history background investigation, employment references and drug testing will be conducted.
