Selective Criteria: For consideration, you must be a current DPS employee certified as a Probation/Parole Officer with at least two years of experience as a NC Probation/Parole Officer.

This position is currently located within the Department of Public Safety but will transfer to the Department of Adult Correction when it is established on January 1st, 2023.

The position will report directly to the Manager of Special Operations in Community Corrections Administration, Yonkers Road, Raleigh.

The position will function primarily as staff of the SBM Command Center, which serves as the triage center, providing the initial response to potential violation and or non-compliance issues generated by offenders statewide. The triage response is provided with immediate notifications to designated officers throughout the state for offenders under probation, parole, or post release supervision; and notification is provided to designated personnel and to Sheriff Departments statewide concerning the unsupervised offenders who are under the provisions of life-time tracking; to provide an appropriate field response to investigate potential violations of SBM.

The position is also responsible for the case management of a caseload of lifetime tracking SBM offenders in a designated area of the state. The position must continuously monitor the SBM system to review offender activities, offender location, and technical operation of the system and offender monitoring /tracking equipment.

The incumbent in this position:

  • Conducts analytical reviews of offender behavior in correlation with location points and makes immediate decisions concerning field responses
  • Will oversee the mapping /crime tracking component of the system to provide information to local law enforcement agencies statewide

PPOs must live within 30 miles of the county to which they are assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

  • Must have experience in establishing effective working relationships with staff, management, allied agencies, and the general public
  • Must have critical thinking skills

Management prefers knowledge of:

  • Special operations and the use of technology within supervision such as SBM and or EHA
  • Sex offender behaviors
  • Community Corrections field operations, case management policies, the judicial and legal system of NC, and local law enforcement
  • Areas that impact the operation, such general statutes, Department policies, and state regulations are also necessary

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor's degree in criminal justice, correctional services, psychology, social work, or other related human services field from an appropriately accredited institution and one year of experience as a Probation/Parole Officer, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

There is no equivalency for the four- year degree requirement based on N.C. Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission. Necessary Special Qualifications Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $41,800.00 - $60,993.00 per year
