Job Summary and Qualifications

Coordinates the speech language pathology care for the patient population who are acutely ill and have medical needs which result in cognitive, swallowing, or language deficits. The speech language pathologist is expected to accurately assess patients’ needs; identify and implement appropriate speech therapy interventions; coordinate and/or provide patient and family teaching and work in collaborative association with the interdisciplinary team to provide timely, safe, and cost effective treatment to achieve the optimal functional outcome. The speech language pathologist frequently performs Modified Barium Swallow Studies on both inpatients and outpatients along with a Radiologist. The speech language pathologist is responsible for participating in the hospital departmental performance improvement plan and assisting in program development activities. The speech language pathologist may also treat patients in the outpatient Rehab setting.

What qualifications you will need:

Minimum Education: Graduate of an accredited school of Speech Language Pathology

Required Certification: Current BLS required with American Heart Association

Required Licensure: Licensed Speech/Language Pathologist in the state of Texas

Skills: Demonstrates sound clinical judgment and is competent in the practice of speech therapy. Demonstrates the ability to

communicate effectively (written and verbal) with administrative staff as well as patients and families, in an assertive, professional

manner.
