This position is part of the Custom Solutions Group, and is an integral part of the design, validation, and execution of Solar Turbines' offerings for Customer projects. After training and getting acquainted with Solar's products and processes, the candidate will move into projects’ execution where will be partnered with senior engineers from other mechanical and electrical/controls disciplines. The hydro mechanical engineer will be expected to work cross functionally with engineers throughout the business to adequately define project details and execute tasks as required.
Job duties include the design of hydromechanical systems including; Lube, Fuel, Start, Seal and Turbine systems. This key role is responsible for providing functional, easily manufactured and tested hydromechanical systems and component designs to ensure the safe and reliable operation of new production Industrial Gas Turbine engines and Driven equipment. Duties include interpreting project requirements, engineering custom systems and development of project specific Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams. Position requires a high level of support, coordination, and communication with other Engineering roles, Production and Business Management. In particular, coordinating with Supply Chain and suppliers directly for such components as; lube oil coolers, pumps, motors, valves and instrumentation. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are imperative.
The successful candidate will collaborate in an Engineering Value Stream together with up to 10 other engineering disciplines. Having the ability to work well with a team, attention to detail with a focus on quality, and the drive to deliver on time is critical to this position. A sense of urgency and organizational skills are required to work with multiple projects and competing priorities.
Additional duties include supporting field personnel during commissioning and the resolution of safety critical assessments. This position provides opportunities to travel to support Customer Design Review meetings, Hazard and Operability Study (HAZOP) meetings, and support installed equipment in the Field.
Minimum Qualifications(Internal): The successful candidate will have a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering with 5+ years of engineering experience
Minimum Qualifications (External):
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering
- 5+ years of engineering experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- Gas turbine hydro mechanical systems design experience
- Experience with Gas Turbine systems and their operation
- Design experience utilizing Promis-E (V8i) software
- Experience in reading and interpreting Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs)
Compensation & Benefits
Base salary for this role ranges from $ 98,726.00, to $148,088.00. Actual salary will be based on experience. The total rewards package, beyond base salary includes:

$98,726.00 - $177,706.00
