Sr. Research Chemist, Heritage Research Group
Job description
We are seeking an organic chemist to help develop new materials and processes to solve problems or meet business needs. We need an ambitious and dedicated colleague who is excited to contribute to hands-on research through chemical synthesis and characterization. The candidate must have a comprehensive knowledge of organic synthesis as well as other analytical techniques (including NMR, FTIR, LCMS, and GCMS). Duties include but are not limited to conducting organic synthesis, reaction monitoring, product analysis, bench chemistry, hazardous waste handling/disposal, and other laboratory duties as designated by direct supervisor.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with other researchers to conduct various organic synthesis efforts
- Set up and maintain laboratory equipment
- Independently plan, lead, and safely execute technical work that can vary from moderate to high complexity. Projects could include new molecule development and/or optimization and scaling of distillation, extraction, and other preparatory techniques.
- Solve problems through a combination of literature searches, market analysis, experimentation, and data interpretation
- Conduct and monitor bench scale experiments including chemical and physical analysis of compounds, and work with engineering team on process scaling
- Prepare reports and presentations to communicate updates and project findings to the team
- Work as part of a multidisciplinary team to analyze research group samples
- Deliver the necessary analytical information for each sample/project
- Determine appropriate analytical tests for sample analysis
- Help develop cross-functional knowledge across THG/HRG
- Drive department safety improvements
Requirements:
- PhD in Organic Chemistry, Masters with 3+ years of applicable experience, or BS with 5+ years in a synthetic chemistry lab and/or manufacturing lab setting will be considered.
- Understanding and implementation of safe laboratory practices
- Creative problem-solving skills to develop solutions to new and ongoing business opportunities
- Experience handling hazardous waste and knowledge of hazardous waste classifications
- Direct experience with a range of material characterization techniques
- Demonstrated application of scientific principles, theory, and experimental design
- Experience with Microsoft Office - Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
- Experience with ChemDraw or equivalent
- Strong organizational and communication skills (oral and written)
