Sylvan is currently looking for a Staff Accountant. The Staff Accountant for Sylvan Learning will support the Accounting Manager in carrying out the responsibilities of the Finance and Accounting Department. In addition, this role will be interacting and assisting daily with multiple Sylvan Learning Center Managers as well as maintaining the books for 5 Sylvan Learning locations.

As a successful Staff Accountant your duties and responsibilities will include:

• Preparing Balance Sheet Reconciliations.
• Assisting with month end close by posting journal entries.
• Comparing actuals to budget on department P&Ls.
• Being knowledgeable in Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
• Assisting in the preparation of audit schedules.
• Assisting with Bank reconciliations.
• Performing research on multiple transactions, deferred revenue and A/R.
• Performing such other accounting, financial, or administrative tasks as may be required from time to time – quite often on short notice – by the Accounting Manager.
• Other duties as assigned.

We require:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, or a Bachelor’s degree in Business with emphasis in accounting
• A strong work ethic.
• Must be highly proficient in Excel and Word
• Demonstrated ability to communicate (verbal and written) with all levels of internal and external customers
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a team member
• Strong organization and documentation skills
• Ability to set priorities and to respond to changing demands from multiple sources
• Analytical and problem-solving skills
• Positive Attitude
