Our production team plays a critical role in the success of the events in the venues on our campus, which include Xcel Energy Center, Saint Paul RiverCentre, and Roy Wilkins Auditorium. The Stage Technician is responsible for ensuring the production success of each event, through knowledge of theatrical elements including staging, lighting, audio, visual, rigging; leading and supervising the Local 13 IATSE crew of part-time stagehands; working with internal venue teams to execute the production plan from load in to load out; and collaborating with outside audio-visual and touring vendors.
As our Stage Technician, YOU WILL:

  • Ensure a smooth technical production for events. No two days are the same. Whether you are working a concert, tradeshow, gala or a convention; all have technical requirements that requires equipment, labor and expertise. Your knowledge of production equipment (lighting, audio, video, soft goods, rigging, staging, knots, rope handling, equipment management, presentation software, and crew leadership) are critical to the success of each event from start to finish. Sometimes your work starts long before the event even arrives, as you will work closely with the event management team to ensure your department is prepared and ready for each event.   • Lead Effectively. Being able to see the big picture and identify the key players in getting the job done is key in this role. In this role, your ability to organize and supervise large crews of part time IATSE members is the key to success. This may be a crew of 5 or 100. Depending on the scope of the event, you may be working with all in-house equipment, or you may be collaborating with an outside production company to bring the event to life. The one constant is that people are needed to bring these events to life, so your ability to lead the way and foster effective and respectful working relationships is important.
  • Provide top notch customer service. Our Stage Technicians are one of many operational departments in our organization. The key to your success does not solely rely on your technical abilities, but also in the way that you deliver service and respond to situations, both with your teammates, other departments and outside vendors and customers. Ensuring a positive, professional and speedy response is not a nice to have, it is the expectation.

YOU ARE A:

  • Problem Solver. Events can easily get bogged down in the ever-changing details, but you do more than get tasks done. You see problems before they become issues and create innovative, but realistic plans to solve them.
  • Focused Executor. Become a champion in bringing efficiency, accuracy and urgency to daily tasks and processes. Collaborating with your internal coworkers and external vendors is key in executing your plans.
  • Audio Guru. You are experienced in the setup, operation, and strike of both analog and digital audio equipment, including but not limited to 12 to 40 Channel Mixers, EQ, processing equipment, amplifiers, acoustic engineering, patching, and networked audio control systems, Flown Audio Systems, interpret national riders, snakes, patch panels, wired and wireless microphones, etc.
  • Video Specialist. Your knowledge of setup, operation, and strike of video equipment, including Analogway, Ross, Sony, switchers, Playback pro and Aja recording, digital and analog recording and playback, venue projectors setup, focus and inputs, removable projector lenses, video grounding systems camera switching, understand consumer and professional video signaling, conversion, scaling, and configuring, understand, operate and trouble-shoot MAC and PC presentation software is key to put on our events.
  • Lighting Resource. You can also setup, operate, and strike lighting equipment including intermediate stage lighting designed, DMX wireless and wireless controllers, distribution and assignments, intelligent light programming, general stage lighting, light fixture selection, mounting & focusing, dimmer controls, distribution cabling, architectural house lighting systems and more!
  • Rigging Master. Setup, operation, and strike of rigging equipment to include theatrical rigging practices (flying projectors & screens), hanging banners and signs, u and practice of safe static rigging practices, hang a load using a chain motor, motor controller, and truss.

THE FINE PRINT:

  • Ability to obtain and maintain forklift certification and operation.
  • Demonstrate membership in the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees or must be willing to gain membership in I.A.T.S.E. Local No. 13.
  • Ability and flexibility to work unusual shifts including weekends and occasional holidays.
  • This position requires walking, standing, sitting, lifting up to 50 pounds, twisting, bending, kneeling, grasping, crawling, squatting, climbing stairs and ladders, working on lifts, motorized carts, and catwalks, working within small workspaces, or spaces with abnormal temperatures.
  • This position may be required to work in loud and noisy environments, as well as dark, dim and bright environments, which may include rapidly changing lighting levels, strobe effects, and other effects related to lighting fixtures, pyro effects, etc.
