Why does the job exist?
This position will perform professional investigative work in the enforcement of state and federal laws, rules and regulations, or the enforcement of state agency promulgated rules and regulations. This position will gather and document facts, conduct interviews, examine records and collect evidence for violations of law or agency governing statutes, rules or regulations.
How does it get done?
- Reviewing and responding to complaints and allegations of violations and obtains statements regarding investigated issues
- Initiating and serving subpoenas for documents and other evidentiary items; serves subpoenas on witnesses
- Investigating and replying to correspondence regarding hearings, reported accidents and other case matters
- Collecting and analyzing information and related evidence involving agreements, documents, financial records, physical aspects and other facts relating to organizational entities and/or individuals being investigated
- Interviewing possible targets; obtaining signed statements and affidavits from targets, victims and witnesses; serves legal documents as required
- Creating reports, charts, graphs and spreadsheets to reflect information gathered through interviews, investigations, reviews of public documents and research
- Reviewing reports of investigations to ensure completeness and proper application of the governing laws or regulations
- Cooperating with and assists regulatory and law enforcement agencies and may testify in courts or administrative hearings
- Assisting administrative prosecutors in filing notices of contemplated action or complaints in administrative or civil proceedings

Minimum Qualification
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, Public Administration, Criminology or other related field and two (2) years of experience in accounting, auditing and investigation, or insurance adjusting and investigating or investigative report writing. Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification within six (6) months of date of hire as a condition of continued employment. Must be current with all tax reporting/payment. Employment is subject to post offer pre-employment criminal background check to include fingerprint checks and is conditional pending results.
Working Conditions
State of New Mexico employees may be impacted by the Public Health Order dated December 19, 2022, which requires facilities licensed or certified by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services ("CMS"), including all hospital types, long-term care facilities, nursing homes, hospice facilities and rehabilitation facilities, as well as assisted living facilities and adult day care settings, to adhere to all COVID-related requirements prescribed by CMS, including, but not limited to masking and staff vaccination.
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage with extended periods of sitting. Some standing, bending and reaching may be required. High pressure/stress situations. Must be able to lift 25 lbs. Some travel may be required.
