Structural Engineer

About This Opportunity

Walker Consultants has an immediate opportunity for a mid-level structural engineer in the Los Angeles / Irvine office. This individual will work on a variety of assignments which may include participating in field investigations of existing buildings especially parking structures, developing repair calculations, preparing design drawings and specifications, analyzing existing structures, conducting forensics investigations, and writing reports.

Walker is a multi-service firm of engineers, architects, and consultants with expertise in parking, structural engineering, structural forensics, structural and architectural restoration, and building envelope consulting that are fully committed to providing structural and architectural solutions.

Responsibilities

• Assist with on-site damage assessment and investigations, including surveying and documenting observations, photographing, and sketching.
• Organize field data to facilitate analysis and problem solving.
• Perform required engineering calculations, structural analysis, and repair/retrofit design.
• Prepare construction documents.
• Assist clients in preparation of bid package.
• Perform construction administration services during construction.
• Research historical background of diverse structures and building materials, technical specifications, and building code issues.
• Complete technical and investigative reports to support findings and prepare presentations.
• Interface with clients and attend meetings.
• Prepare project proposals.
• Requires traveling to jobsites including out-of-state locations.

Qualifications and Competencies

• Minimum Bachelor’s degree (Master’s degree preferred) in civil/structural engineering.
• Must have background in structural dynamics or related field.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in structural design, repair/retrofit design and damage investigations.

Experience with post-tensioned structures is a plus.

• Fluent in spoken and written English. Strong technical writing skills.
• Excellent organization and project management skills.

• PE or SE in home state preferred.
• Strong background in using commercially available structural engineering software
• Experience in building envelope assessments (moisture infiltration, façade, roofing) is a plus.
