Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Work closely with the Director in the planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating educational programs and activities at KoEC.
  • Work with Director, student affairs staff, faculty, and students to identify Hawai’i Community College (Hawai’i CC) student and community needs and issues; initiate and implement processes or programs to deliver required services for student recruitment, enrollment management, retention, and graduation.
  • Provide academic advising and educational services to students in traditional courses, Early College, dual-enrollment, and pre-college; including admissions, transfer credit evaluations, registration, tuition payment, and dissemination of financial aid information.
  • Promote all Hawai’i CC and UH distance education courses, programs, and activities to students in the North Hawai’i region, both individually and through outreach events. Recruit, enroll, and provide ongoing wrap-around support for students throughout the year.
  • Prepare orientation materials and deliver orientation services for new students.
  • Maintain comprehensive records of programs and prepare materials, information, and reports as required for program planning and budgetary purposes.
  • Compile, prepare and report data on student demographic, enrollment, retention, graduation, and other student variables.
  • Maintain professional competency by keeping abreast of recent trends and advances in professional areas and participate in the planning and implementation of staff training for colleagues and program personnel.
  • Develop partnerships with other organizations (e.g. community-based organizations, businesses, and individuals) to engage support for KoEC programs, events, and classes.
  • Communicate with a wide variety of audiences, including Hawai’i’s traditionally underprivileged and under-served populations, business community, and UH system faculty and staff.
  • Develop and publicize promotion of college courses and programs using social media, online sites, print and broadcast media. Deliver program presentations to schools and community upon request.
  • Work closely with Director in preparing and writing proposals to sponsors, soliciting support (financial and in-kind) for programs and related activities.
  • Work closely with appropriate staff to ensure successful transition of students from high school to post-secondary and from non-credit to credit programs.
  • Work closely with appropriate staff to provide student advising and support, learning communities, and college planning opportunities for high school seniors transitioning into college and students in their first year of college.
  • Work closely with appropriate staff to monitor multiple timelines (i.e. high school and college schedules, grant schedules, timing of other program offerings, scholarship and financial aid deadlines, enrollment requirements, environmental factors) and launch the marketing and delivery of programs/activities at the most favorable times.
  • Maintain working knowledge of social media and networking sites to explore new trends, expand recruitment opportunities, and implement new social media marketing techniques to increase enrollment.
  • Provide supervision and training of student employees as needed.
  • Duties may include working outside of normally scheduled hours, including nights and weekends.
  • Travel around the island and within the state for programs, meetings, and professional development, as needed.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Possession of a baccalaureate degree in Liberal Arts, Education, Counseling, Social Science, Human Services, Human Resources, Business, or other related field and 3 years of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for providing college-level academic and/or student support services; or equivalent education/training or experience.
  • Considerable working knowledge of principles, practices and techniques in the field of providing college-level academic and/or student support services; as demonstrated by the broad knowledge of the full range of pertinent standard and evolving concepts, principles and methodologies.
  • Considerable working knowledge and understanding of applicable federal and state laws, rules, regulations and theories and systems associated with providing college-level academic and/or student support services.
  • Demonstrated ability to resolve wide ranging complex problems through the use of creative reasoning and logic to accurately determine the cause of the problems and the resolution of the problems in an effective, innovative and timely manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally and by preparation of reports and other materials.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders and members, and individuals.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and apply word processing software.
  • For supervisory work, demonstrated ability to lead subordinates, manage work priorities and projects, and manage employee relations.
  • Any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.

Desirable Qualifications
  • Possession of a master's degree in Liberal Arts, Education, Counseling, Social Science, Human Services, Human Resources, Business, or related field.
  • Experience working on grant-funded projects.
  • Experience working with rural communities; including rural high school students and families, college students, non-traditional adult students, or any other individuals who are historically under-represented and/or not receiving equitable access to education.
  • Demonstrated commitment and/or experience promoting equity and a diverse workforce/academic environment.
  • Demonstrated commitment and/or experience supporting the success of students.
