TRIO Programs is home to two federally funded TRiO Student Support Services (SSS) programs: PRIME STEM and Project BEST. These programs serve UCF students who are first-generation, low-income, and/or have a documented disability by offering academic support services, opportunities, and resources to enhance personal skills and academic excellence. The goal of the SSS grant is to increase the college retention and graduation rates of its participants. Academic coaches work with TRIO scholars to develop study skills and improve non-cognitive skills.
The Opportunity:
TRIO Project BEST seeks applications for an Academic Coach. The Academic Coach is responsible for establishing a coaching relationship with scholars and providing them with tools and resources to reach their academic and career goals. This position also works alongside with staff for recruitment and organizing events.
Responsibilities:
  • Establish a coaching relationship with scholars.
  • Provide scholars with skills and strategies to become effective learners.
  • Guide scholars towards understanding and using learning strategies.
  • Assist scholars with identifying and overcoming obstacles that may impede academic success.
  • Help scholars set individual goals and action plans to reach their goals.
  • Assist with referrals to appropriate campus resources.
  • Document coaching sessions
  • Develop and facilitate online and/or in-person workshops.
  • Develop academic improvement plans for scholars placed on academic probation.
  • Create program publications and assist with events.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma.
  • Strong written and verbal communication.
  • Knowledge of university academic resources
  • Computer literacy (Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Experience in writing reports.
  • Ability to create presentations via multiple platforms.
  • Demonstrates the ability to take initiative.
  • Positive attitude.
Preferred Qualifications:
Current UCF Graduate Student.
