POSITION SUMMARY:
Provides a quality experience to children and parents focused on YMCA core values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring. Supports camp activities as assigned by camp unit leader and/or supervisor. Instruct campers using various teaching methods and modifies activities as needed to ensure that campers of all ages and experience levels are engaged.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Assists with supervision of a group of children.
2. Implements program activities that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate and consistent with YMCA values.
3. Attends staff meetings and trainings.
4. Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies.
5. Maintains positive relations with parents and other staff. Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions.
6. Adheres to program standards including safety and cleanliness standards. Follows CDC, State and County Department of Health standards, procedures and recommendations around heath screening, cleaning, and sanitation
7. Set-up and prepare for activities on a daily base and stores all materials/ equipment appropriately after use and work to keep camp facility clean an organized at all times.
8. Ensures the physical and emotional health and safety of campers by being safety conscious, following all established YMCA standards and critically evaluating situations for potential risks
9. Support unit leader at all times and keep camper-to-counselor ratio at all times.
10. Wear appropriate uniform, including camp shirt, nametag and clipboard with you along with radio at all times.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. High school graduate or equivalent; one year or more of college preferred.
2. Previous experience working with children preferably in a day camp setting preferred
3. Experience preferred in one or more of the following areas: outdoor living, songs/music, skits, sports, aquatics, recreational games, etc…
4. At least 18 years of age.
6. Previous experience with diverse populations preferred.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
· Ability to plan, lead and participate in activities.
· Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds and stand for a minimum of 4 hours.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $16.00 - $17.00 per hour
