Cornerstone Recruiting is actively searching for a General Superintendent, in the Chesapeake/coastal area of Virginia, for a leading heavy civil marine contractor. This established, niche firm offers a wide range of services and turnkey solutions in marine construction, design, and specialty services on, over, and under the water throughout North Carolina and Virginia.

As a General Superintendent, you will perform tasks related to the site visits, production updates and quality control measures and other field management duties to relay back to office production management professionals on heavy civil & marine construction projects. The primary responsibilities require sound technical and field level (hands-on) knowledge of heavy Marine Construction engineering. To be successful, the General Superintendent requires significant experience in the selection and application of resource monitoring and control principles, techniques and technical knowledge of heavy civil construction projects.

General Superintendent Responsibilities:

• Oversee field staff, and foremen to make sure multiple projects are on time, within budget, and have material & manpower to do so.
• Determines project responsibilities by identifying project phases and elements; assigning personnel to phases and elements; reviewing bids from subcontractors.
• Read, understand, and plan according to the work specifications and contract responsibilities.
• Anticipate project conflicts, communicate preventative action plans, and implement solutions to avoid issues.
• Understand and plan work according to project plans, change orders, shop drawings, subcontracts, purchase orders, and monthly pay estimates.
• Provide leadership to others through example and sharing of knowledge/skill.
• Oversee daily field activities leading to optimal progression of project with Superintendents and Foreman.
• Present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
• Supervise, manage, and direct the selection, training, development, appraisal, and work assignments of personnel.

General Superintendent Requirements:

• 6+ Years of Experience in Marine Construction Management or Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
• General knowledge of construction principles/practices required.
• Experienced dealing with subcontracts, subcontractors and/or self-perform work.
• Experience leading successful project team, including development of employee and maintaining relationships with external entities.
• Experience running multiple projects with designated leadership on each job that report in directly.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $100,000.00 - $130,000.00 per year
