Job Title: Specimen Management Supervisor

Job Summary:

Specimen Management Supervisor is responsible for the daily supervision, performance management and development of all phlebotomy and processing staff. They must Supervises daily pre-analytical specimen receipt, processing, identification verification and specimen storage. Specimen Management Supervisor provides daily schedules and oversees centrifuge and pneumatic tube systems operation and office equipment usage. Specimen Management Supervisor is responsible for ensuring correct patient identification on specimens and documentation and resolutions of pre-analytical specimen related issues. Specimen Management Supervisor controls and manages supply ordering and inventory. Specimen Management Supervisor supervises all inpatient phlebotomy personnel. Specimen Management Supervisor provides and organizes training to others. Specimen Management Supervisor supports and encourages a fair, inclusive work environment that is respectful of staff abilities and individual and team contributions.

Job Responsibilities include:

• Supervises and writes policies for receiving, processing and delivering of all specimens to appropriate laboratory departments for testing or Sendout protocols.
• Schedules all Lab Assistant II staff to cover all shifts.
• Verifies and supervises all patient identification and test requirements.
• Oversees the operation, maintenance and troubleshooting of all centrifuge equipment.
• Expert in multiple computer systems to complete proper patient test orders.
• Daily supervision and directs staff to the policy for problem specimen issue resolve.
• Completes all initial and annual training and competencies.
• Supervises all inpatient phlebotomy staff.
• Assists the manager in performance evaluations annually.
• Supervises all processing tasks during a computer downtime event.
• Maintain a compliant environment, including adherence to all lab and hospital procedures, HIPPAA standards, infection control (including hand hygiene and proper personal protective equipment) and safety guidelines.
• Participate in quality assurance and performance improvement activities and maintain inter-and intra-departmental work flow by cooperating with others.
• Maintain adequate inventory and conserve resources.
• Maintain professional knowledge by participating in educational opportunities.
• Is flexible in assuming additional responsibilities as assigned.

Physical Demands: May require light lifting (up to10 pounds) and carrying supplies. Must be able to push a phlebotomy cart. Repetitive use of hands (e.g. computer keyboard usage), sitting, walking or standing for long periods of time is often necessary; must be able physically to operate centrifuge and pneumatic tube system used in the job.

Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Previous supervisor and phlebotomy experience required.

Licensure: Phlebotomy Certificate is preferred.

Additional Qualifications: Strongly prefer candidate with completion of secondary education (Associates or Bachelor's degree) from an accredited institution in a related field and a minimum of two years of related experience. Strongly prefer a national certification in phlebotomy.

Schedule: Full Time, Days Flex with occasional weekend and holiday rotation
