Position Summary
The inventory, distribution/delivery of medications is required for all Patient Care area Positions.
The Registered Nurse is responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating a plan of patient care utilizing ANA Standards and the Nursing Process. Acts as a patient advocate. Provides support, information, and direct care. Utilizes equipment and technology skillfully and is technically competent in nursing procedures. Educates patients and families on significant selfcare issues. The inventory, distribution/delivery of medications may be required.

Position Requirements

Education

• Licensed and currently registered to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Maryland or Delaware.

Required License and/or Certification

• Currently certified in CPR
• ACLS, or PALS as required specialty

Experience

Dependent on area of specialty:

• Critical Care – 2 years of experience preferred
• Medical Surgical – 1 year of experience preferred
• Emergency Department – 2 Years of experience preferred
• Mother/Baby, Labor/Deliver, Pediatrics – 2 Years of experience preferred

Mental Demands

• Demonstrates organizational ability by using time and equipment effectively.
• Works under pressure of time and accuracy, often in stressful situations.
• Works with patients and families in crisis situations and emotional/mental alterations.
• Demonstrates skill and accuracy in written and oral communications.
• Frequently works with grieved, despondent, angry and mentally disturbed patients. Takes necessary immediate action when handling personnel problems.

Responsibilities for Assets

• Works with numerous expensive and complex instruments which may include IV controllers, hypothermia units, vacuum regulators, computers, portable and bedside cardiac/pressure monitors, and other specialized equipment.
• Has thorough understanding of proper working order of equipment and reports maintenance needs promptly. Is conscious of and participates in cost containment efforts.
• Contact with others
• Communicates in a courteous, accurate, and timely manner with; patient, family, significant others, physicians, visitors and other health care team members.
• Keeps private life and personal biases that may have negative impact on unit function separate from work issues.

Work Schedule

• May be assigned to day, evening, or night shifts or a combination per departmental policy.
• Required to work weekends per unit need. Expected to work overtime on occasion.

Supplemental Staff Registered Nurse (RN) Work Schedule

Level ONE STEM Nurse
A. Ninety Six (96) hours per 8-week unit schedule consisting of 4 pay periods are the minimum requirement. Average 12 hours per week.
B. Twenty Four (24) weekend hours per 8-week period
C. Minimum of 1 (12) hour holiday OR 2 (8) hour hard to fill shifts from group 1 AND group 2 per year.
D. Orientation and education hours do not count towards the monthly requirement.

Level TWO STEM Nurse (Working both Facilities)
A. One Hundred Ninety Two (192) hours per 8-week unit schedule consisting of 4 pay periods are the minimum requirement. Average of 12 hours at each hospital per week.
B. Forty Eight (48) weekend hours per 8-weeks period
C. Minimum of 1 (12) hour summer or winter holiday AND 1 (12) hour hard to fill shifts from group 1 AND group 2 per year.
D. Orientation and education hours do not count towards the monthly requirement.

STANDBY Nurse (Unit based at one facility)

A. 24 hours per month(depending on unit shifts) OR 288 hours per unit expectations

B. Six (6) weekend shifts per 12 months

C. Minimum of 1 (12) hour holiday shift per year.
