Advocates for Family Peace is a nonprofit located in Grand Rapids and Virginia serving all of Itasca County and northern St. Louis County.
Employees earn a generous PTO policy that starts on their first day of work and 10 paid holidays a year. We offer employees medical and dental insurance where Advocates for Family Peace pay a portion of premiums. In our medical plan, our employees only have to pay 25% of premiums and 50% of dental premiums.

We created a policy that allows infants in the workplace until 6 months of age. The goal of this policy is to create a working environment that allows an infant to be with a parent, facilitates the parent’s accomplishments of job performance, and minimizes disruption of the workplace. Our workday mostly ends at 3:30 giving employees time to be with family. This along with other things set us apart from other employers.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
FRONT DESK/RECEPTION: Open the office each morning and ensure that everything is ready for the day. Answer the office phone and direct calls to the appropriate staff; field calls that are out of the scope of the agency and give information and referrals to other resources. Greet all parties that come into the office and direct them to the appropriate staff member or give information and referrals. Assist with technical issues as necessary (phones, cameras, printers, etc.) Take a leadership role in the technical safety of our agency. Inform staff of any current technology threats going on. Perform all other day-to-day reception duties as necessary.
VICTIM/SURVIVOR ADVOCACY: Provide crisis intervention, advocacy, and support to victims of domestic violencevia the phone and in person. Provide transportation, emergency financial assistance, emergency safe housing, information, resources, and referrals to survivors as necessary.
DOCUMENTATION: Obtain survivor information/intakes and document survivor interactions; enter into the appropriate database and file paper documents promptly. Make sure that the necessary survivor releases of information are signed before sharing any information with outside entities.
STATISTICS/GRANT REPORTING: Assemble and organize data for assigned monthly and quarterly progress reports. Complete assigned progress reports on time.
ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT: File, copy and scan miscellaneous documents as necessary. Process agency donations. Assist in handling agency mail, emails and phone calls. Other administrative duties as assigned.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Treat the people we serve, co-workers, and the public in a respectful and courteous manner at all times. Maintain confidentially of agency issues. Maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that fosters good relations with people we serve, customers, co-workers, and supervisors. Attend training or networking meetings as requested by the Executive Director. Create and maintain professional relationships by using effective and timely communication with all appropriate agencies of each case. Represent Advocates for Family Peace at meetings in the absence of the Director. Participate in scheduled staff meetings and board-staff workshops. Adhere to agency policies. Practice self-care and assist in creating a work environment that encourages self-care for all staff. Establish and maintain clear boundaries with the people we serve. Take ownership in our buildings and outside spaces. Flexibility and adaptability regarding assigned job duties and changes within the agency.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Minimum educational requirement is a high school diploma. An AA degree is preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, OTHER:
Ability to work independently/use own judgment to coordinate the needs of the office.
Good communication skills, both written and oral.
Demonstrated ability to be assertive with the people we serve and coordinating agencies.
Demonstrated ability to work well with staff and community members.
Ability to work as a team member.
Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Word, Excel and Access database.
Travel required and overnight stays periodically.
Demonstrated ability to coordinate services.
Understanding of violence prevention philosophies.
Flexibility.
Have valid car insurance or inform the executive director of lack of car insurance.
Hold a valid Minnesota driver’s license (or obtain one within 30 days of employment) and maintain a good driving record.
