Position Summary:

Provide guidance to prospective and active students that are veterans, or utilizing veteran education benefits, on the tuition planning process, VA resources and educational progression.

Responsibilities:

  • Meets with current and prospective, veteran beneficiary students, helping them understand their options and identifying how they will pay for their program.
  • Answers questions from and provides support services to veterans and their families regarding benefit eligibility, requirements, registration, and other applicable student services; conducts orientation and workshops.
  • Interprets, applies and complies with federal, state and institutional regulations governing student financial
  • Maintains a current working knowledge of guidelines/regulations related to state, agency, institutional and federal funding.
  • Creates and maintains student files and records for compliance audit and progress tracking purposes.
  • Participates in annual veteran’s program training to keep abreast with changes and new laws governing the administration of veteran’s education.
  • Coordinates and promotes workshops for faculty, staff, and students regarding returning veterans with disabilities, and physical/nonphysical disorders such as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), and varied learning styles.
  • Provides outreach activities on campus and in the community to raise awareness of the available services to veterans and to establish support from community organizations.
  • Acts as liaison between veterans and other campus staff.
  • Maintains a close working relationship with Student Financial Services, Admissions, as well as all other institutional departments.
  • Monitors academic progress of veterans receiving benefits; notifies the Veterans Affairs office and students of unsatisfactory academic performance.
  • Provides exemplary customer service by responding to all veteran, or veteran beneficiary, student inquiries regarding any aspect of their program, including, Tuition Planning, VA certifications, Veteran Resources, Job Placement, Academic Plans, attendance, and academic resources.

Required Knowledge, Education and Experience:

Associate’s degree in related field and minimum two years of Customer Service, Banking, Financial Aid or related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience working with veterans and veteran resources.

Physical Environment:

  • Most work is performed in a temperature-controlled office environment
  • Incumbent may sit for long periods of time at a desk or computer terminal
  • Incumbent may use calculators, keyboards, telephone and other office equipment
  • Stooping, bending twisting, and reaching may be required
  • Some work may be completed in classroom or shop environment
