Position: Surgical Technician/Technologist
Location: Scotland County, NC
Duration: Full Time / Permanent Placement / Direct Hire
Shift Days: 4 days a week
Shift Times: 1st and 2nd shift: 6: 30AM -5PM // with rotating on-call

Job Summary: Assists surgeon during operative procedures. Ensures operating suite is adequately prepared for procedures. Monitors PAR level of surgical instruments and supplies and makes materials coordinator aware. Cleans and sterilizes surgical instruments when necessary. Participates in departmental staff meetings and performance improvement activities.

Job Duties:

Prepares for surgical procedures by identifying, selecting, and setting up instruments using aseptic technique.

Inspects all equipment, instruments, and packaging to insure sterility and proper function.

Utilizes and understands sterilization principles in processing instruments and equipment.

Utilizes proper hand washing technique and prepares O.R. Field according to standards.

Anticipates surgeons needs as to instruments and suture.

Keeps operative field neat, clean, and dry.

Properly identifies and passes specimens to circulating nurse.

Accurately reports all prosthesis, drains and catheters to circulating nurse.

Disposes of used supplies according to procedure.

Assists with room clean up and set up.

Returns reusable equipment and supplies to appropriate place.

Counts sponges, instruments, and sharps prior to operative incision, and at closure of any cavity according to standards.

Assists in properly positioning patient on table.

Performs miscellaneous tasks to facilitate continuity of patient care such as relieving at break, lunch time, and assisting with cleaning and restocking.

Is accessible when on call.

Age Specific Competency: Staff members will have knowledge of human growth and development through the life span of the patient and have the ability to meet the needs of and provide the care of these patients.

Performs services requiring technical or manual skills under the direction of circulating RN. Consults with other staff members when in question or unfamiliar with equipment or procedures.

Requirements:

Degree: Completed accredited Surgical Tech Program: Required
Recent grads accepted!


Experience: 1 year of experience: preferred

Certification: National preferred
