A day in the life:
-
Perform all aspects of field survey work using manuals, electronic survey equipment, computers and modern software.
-
Conduct research, prepare reports and keep accurate field notes and records.
-
Perform survey calculations to detect elevations, coordinates, areas, earthwork quantities, circular and spiral curve data, distances and established and establish highway alignment using current technology, software and methods.

Provide initial topographic mapping and base maps for transportation projects.

Establish and maintain professional and collaborative working relationships with all contacts.

Perform 80% of work outdoors, in all weather conditions, working long hours at times and near highway traffic or construction equipment.

What we need:
Three and one-half years (42 months) of sub-professional engineering experience.
OR
An associate's degree in engineering technology from a community college or technical school of engineering and two years of experience directly related to engineering.
OR
An equivalent combination of education and experience (such as a bachelor’s degree in engineering plus six months’ engineering experience).

Note: If you are currently a transportation maintenance specialist 2 (TMS2) or have been one in the past, in addition to your completed application, please attach section three of your TMS2 position description to receive full credit for your related work. If your experience includes work in multiple maintenance disciplines (e.g. highway, sign, bridge, striping or landscape) please attach section three of the position description for each of the relevant disciplines.
Driving is an essential function of this position. You must have a valid driver license and an acceptable driving record. We will conduct pre-employment driving records checks on our final candidate(s). Your license does not have to be issued in Oregon to be considered.

Experience and proven knowledge of land surveying and use of equipment.

Experience working outdoors as a member of a crew or individually.

Ability to work independently and within teams while being organized, efficient, resourceful and responsive to deadlines.

Ability to use conventional or computer aided programs for engineering calculations, drafting and mapping.

Experience and efficiency across the Microsoft Office portfolio of programs and ability to use web database systems.
