Overview:
Abacus Technology is seeking a System Engineer to provide technical support for the COMIT program at Johnson Space Center. This is a full-time position.
Responsibilities:
Design and support the installation of A/V systems including but not limited to: short haul fiber optic devices, video tape machines, isochronous routers, IP routers and baseband processing equipment. Support system installations at outlying facilities including the types of equipment above. Provide as-built system documentation based on field verification of installations. Interface with customers and other contract technical staffers as needed to ensure technical system operations are conducted seamlessly. Create system block and wiring diagrams, architectural layouts, and other AutoCAD drawings to COMIT and NASA standards. Identify Value Engineering opportunities to increase efficiency and save cost. Provide coordination with other trades, as necessary. Perform on-going engineering support, as needed. Perform field and shop support and troubleshooting, as needed. Design, develop, and program control systems; AMX primary, Creston and other control systems secondary. Design and program complex audio systems using DSP and other audio matrix systems. Assist other departments with technical support issues. Develop custom systems operation manuals as needed. Provide field leadership during installation of multimedia projects. Coordinate shop and field testing of integrated systems.
Qualifications:
5+ years experience in engineering television/AV systems including experience with broadcast televison equipment and systems, including master control, facility automation, fiber optics, digital and analog routing, RF and IPTV. Bachelor’s degree in a related field. Additional years of experience, training, and/or military experience may be substituted for degree requirements. Related certifications a plus: PMP, CTS, CTS-D, and AMX Ace. Related training by manufacturers is desirable: Crestron, AMX, Extron, BiAMP, ClearOne, Polycom, and Cisco. Member or Certified by the ADDA or ADDA (digital) program preferred. Knowledge of multimedia and broadcast systems, system design, AutoCad and a strong electronics background is desirable. Able to design, specification and build-up of multimedia systems based on technologies prevalent from the year 2010 and forward. Understanding of packetized and isochronous networks a major plus. Solid knowledge of AutoCAD and Office software. Experience with the following: analog and digital baseband; CATV over copper; analog and digital baseband over short haul fiber optics; facility automation systems; C and Ku satellite reception; virtual routing systems; Internet Protocol Television (IPTV); camera control; audio mixing systems; digital switching systems; multimedia control systems; and video projection and A/V systems. Able to think and work independently and meet necessary deadlines. Able to meet with customers to collaboratively determine technical requirements. Experience in system design and knowledge of budget to provide the customer with a functioning system, that meets all requirements both stated and derived. Able to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Able to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Able to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Able to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Must be able to provide a positive and effective interaction with internal and external customers. Able to work overtime or shift hours as needed. Must be a US citizen.
