Systems Engineer
Job description
The Systems Engineer supports the University by driving the implementation and development of applications, network and server infrastructure, and other 3rd party solutions. The Systems Engineer will oversee documentation, administration, and configuration of existing software and system services for a variety of applications including packaged applications, cloud-based, and custom developed applications. The Systems Engineer is a technical asset and resource across multiple IT disciplines and will actively research and maintain knowledge in emerging technologies and solutions to solve business problems. The Systems Engineer contributes to the Joyce University strategy by providing insight and recommendations for the future of the technology infrastructure to improve the student experience and institutional sustainability.

WHAT YOU DO EVERYDAY:
- Build and integrate IT systems to meet the needs of the University
- Manage and monitor systems and infrastructure
- Maintain security, backup, and redundancy strategies
- Address technical problems as they arise
- Coach and mentor more junior members of the team
- As directed, assume leadership responsibility for systems implementations and IT-related enterprise projects
- Proactively research current and emerging technologies and propose changes to enhance IT infrastructure
- Communicate updates to stakeholders on project progress, costs, and changes
- Effectively manage IT relationships with hardware, software, and services vendors, outsource partners, and other stakeholders
- Ensure industry best practices are followed and assist in the development and formalization of internal standards pertaining thereto.
- Attend and actively participate in school functions, including receptions, marketing events, commencement exercises, in-service training, advisory committees, etc.
- Other duties as assigned
WHAT YOU’VE ACCOMPLISHED:
Required Experience:
- 4+ years of experience in a systems engineer, architect, or commensurate role
- 2+ years of experience in a systems analysis role
- Strong business and operational acumen
- Deep hands-on experience in cloud (SaaS, IaaS, PaaS) technology platforms
- Previous experience leading project teams
Preferred Experience:
- Experience in higher education
Following industry standard certifications are given preference:
- CompTIA A+, Security+, Server+, Network+
- Microsoft Azure Systems Engineer Expert
- Google Professional Cloud Architect
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems
