Summary: The Tenant Advisor reports directory to the Renters Helpline Supervisor and provides quality service to a range of customers by phone. This position completes phone intakes from individuals and families with tenants and/or landlord questions, in accordance with Fair Housing and Renter’s Rights and Responsibilities including AB 1482 and temporary moratoriums. Additionally, the Tenant Advisor provides conflict resolution, tenant education and/or referrals to appropriate services, request for petitions, referrals to code compliance and services. This position is full-time with an expectation to work in the office 40 hours per week from 8:30am to 5pm and occasionally attend outreach events in evenings or weekends.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Completes a detailed computer intake with each caller to ensure that the varying needs will be addressed.
- Answers questions and educates tenants of their rights and responsibilities in respect to renters’ issues, AB 1482, Tenant Protection Program, and new temporary moratoriums due to public health and state of emergency.
- Provides dispute resolutions between the landlord and tenant as deemed appropriate.
- Communicates clearly with tenants concerning issues connected to tenancy termination and evictions.
- Educates tenants of their rights in respect to Fair Housing issues.
- Evaluates potential Fair Housing concerns.
- Makes appropriate referrals and documents.
- Ensures follow up within 24 hours by phone and e-mails with clients to offer further assistance. Updates cases, as necessary.
- Develops and maintains an understanding of tenant and landlord responsibilities.
- Will assist in distribution of flyers and brochures at public places.
- Conducts briefings/presentations to public in person or zoom.
- Will be required to provide information to Supervisor upon request for reports.
- Regular, predictable attendance is required.
- Ability to get along and work effectively with others.
- Performs other duties as assigned to support the mission of the program.
Supervisory Responsibilities: This job has no supervisory duties.

Education and/or Experience: One year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, members, governmental bodies/boards and the general public.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Internet software and the Microsoft Office Suite of products. Knowledge of basic office equipment should include: Internet and email, copy and fax machines, and telephone.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: A current CA driver’s license and proof of auto insurance are required.
