Job Title: Tractor Operator
Department: Base Operations and Support
Job Summary:
Tractor Operator performs duties related to the maintenance and beautification of the parks and trees, street medians, right-of-ways, ditches, and other facilities, primarily operating tractors with batwings on flats and slopes and mowers/boom mowers along the interstate, secondary roads, etc. while maneuvering around traffic, structures, debris, and foliage. This position will be responsible for ensuring the tractors and other equipment used it kept in operational condition by following the OEM operator maintenance and pre-operational & post-operational inspections and maintenance.

Duties/Responsibilities:
- Maintain vegetation around designated areas using tractors and other ground maintenance equipment
- Operates a variety of agricultural tractors, attached implements, and other equipment, including specialized equipment that may be highly modified or fabricated for tree seedling nursery operations
- Performs routine operator maintenance on equipment, e.g., adding oil and gas, lubrication, tightening loose bolts, and performing operator safety and pre-work inspections and makes minor repairs/adjustments of assigned equipment; reports damage and /or required maintenance
- Attaches equipment to tractors and adjusts for proper heights, depth, spacing, and spreading
- Performs duties related to irrigation, tree inventory, transplanting, and grounds maintenance
- Loads and unloads rock, debris, earth, trees, and materials, such as abrasives, de-icing chemicals/hazardous material using hands, loaders, trucks, hand-truck, forklift, dolly-lift, and hoist
- Operates a man-lift, front-end loader, backhoe, ATV/UTV, and trucks up to 26000 GVWR to include skills in handling controls for starting, stopping, backing, and driving
- Is required to comply with safety regulations, procedures, protocols, and OSHA standards, and wear personal protective gear if required
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Proficient in written and oral communication skills according to skill requirements
- Possess strong computer skills, able to read, write, and comprehend written instructional documents
- Ability to function well in a high-paced and, at times, stressful environment
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
- Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- At least two years of related experience required
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting and operating equipment
- Prolonged period of standing, bending, reaching, and working with hands
- Prolonged periods of exposure to loud noises
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds at times
- Ability to stand, walk, and reach with arms and hands as necessary
- Ability to hear and see to position and safety requirement levels
- Occasional exposure to elements such as heat, cold, noise, dust, dirt, and chemicals
Special Qualifications/Requirements:
- Must be able to pass successfully required, a federal, state, or local government's background investigation
- Valid state driver's license
