American Mortgage Network is currently seeking a detail oriented, highly motivated Mortgage Underwriting Manager for our growing organization. The Mortgage Underwriting Manager is responsible for directing the daily activities of the underwriting department. This position analyzes and evaluates residential loan applications originated by American Mortgage Network staff in accordance with industry and business unit standards. The Underwriting Manager gathers, analyzes and interprets all types of credit information for existing and prospective clients in order to maximize credit and minimize risk. Position Summary

The Underwriting Manager is responsible for managing underwriting and achieving metrics for production and quality for the company. Supervise, mentor and train underwriters to ensure compliance with company secondary market investors and government agencies. Support and manage credit escalations and interpretations. Works with Sales and Operations to identify and refine best practices, ensure quality and efficiency and timely response to questions.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Manage and provide direction/mentorship and training to the personnel of the Underwriting Department.
  • Oversee the processes to ensure efficiencies are maximized, accuracy is achieved, and time frames are met for all underwriting functions.
  • Ensure loans are underwritten in accordance with underwriting standards, risk management factors and guidelines established by secondary market investors and agency guidelines.
  • Coach team to achieve/exceed optimal performance against metrics; take action to optimize productivity, quality, efficiency and service-levels.
  • Responsible for analyzing highly complex finance and credit information according to internal guidelines, investor guidelines and federal regulations.
  • Act as liaison with clients, loan officers and co-workers to facilitate a prompt, efficient closing of each loan.
  • Communicate with investors to clear and resolve any purchase suspense items as it relates to credit/underwriting.
  • Perform 2nd level reviews for the Credit Authority Process
  • Perform 2nd level reviews for Credit Denials
  • Work with Executive Team to resolve Post Closing Audits
  • Works in conjunction with Executive Team to ensure proper knowledge of all relative compliance topics, monitor activities and report issues
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • 5 – 10 years in a credit/management role
  • VA LAPP/FHA DE preferred
  • Experience Managing teams
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret guidelines and make decisions based on the interpretations

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2-4 years’ experience in post-closing along with management experience.
  • Strong analytical, creative problem solving and negotiation skills.
  • Excellent skills and an ability to work effectively in a fast-paced team environment.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple demands in a high-pressure environment while maintaining a professional demeanor.
  • Effective /collaborative leadership style that inspires and motivates outstanding performance.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to be flexible in an ever-changing environment.
