Job description
The Unit Clerk/Patient Financial Liaison is a member of the skilled nursing staff who acts as a receptionist in the nursing unit, performs clerical duties at the nursing unit desk and performs a variety of duties that involve interacting with residents/families.
Computer knowledge and skills. Good hearing and speech to take and deliver messages. Ability to read, is well organized, and has knowledge of medical terminology.
Compliance with rules and regulations of all federal, state, and local governments is a requirement. Verifies stock supplies on the unit to maintain established inventories, assist with ordering as needed. Makes all appointments for patients as requested. Makes transportation and DME arrangements as directed. Meet with residents/families ‐ assess their eligibility for Medical Assistance and assist with application, renewals, notifications to CAO. Send census updates to pharmacy daily. Verify bed hold status for transfers. Assist with the Resident Personal Care Accounts, maintaining receipts and accurate record of transactions, QuickBooks. File for Rep Payee as indicated for residents. Attend meetings as directed. Calls Medical Records for charts on all new admissions. Identifies patient by asking patient to state name and date of birth prior to any treatment. Assist with scheduling of nursing staff. Performs charge entry and work order requests into the computer. Has charts ready for physician rounds. Keeps informed of fire, safety, and disaster programs. Attends designated in‐service programs ‐ fire & safety, infection control, right‐to‐know, body mechanics. Works with and assists: ‐ Faxing of information. ‐ Completes appropriate section of applicable forms. ‐ Copying of requested paperwork. Answers the telephone and relays messages efficiently and tactfully. Directs visitors to appropriate room, etc. Verify Insurance on new referrals, assist Admissions with prior authorizations and recertification’s, issuing insurance cut notifications. Assembles new charts with appropriate paperwork. Review and complete financial agreement with new admissions. Accurately files documents on patient charts. Performs clerical duties for the skilled nursing unit as requested.
Performs other duties as requested reasonably related.
