Trenton Animal Hospital is a thriving general practice located in beautiful Gilchrist County (the "Springs Capital" of Florida) just a short 30-minute drive west of Gainesville, Fl....home of the Florida Gators! We are the only veterinary hospital located in the entire county and serve a large rural area, as well as clientele from Gainesville due to our reputation of offering excellent state of the art surgical and medical care. We currently have 4 full time associates and are looking to add another 2 eager team members!Hire start date would need to be by June 1st, 2023 for one of the open positions. The other critical care position needs to be filled by September 1st, 2023. We are a privately run practice, which is a rarity these days, but a huge benefit because it gives me the flexibility in allowing my doctors to practice the medicine they want to practice while keeping prices down to better serve the community.

Our practice sees a large variety of pets, including dogs, cats, small rodents, pot-belly pigs, rabbits, and reptiles. Service breakdown is ~40% wellness and routine visits, ~40% emergent/critical care, 20% surgical with 5% being emergency soft tissue and orthopedic surgery and 25% being routine soft tissue surgery and dental. All of our Veterinarians are highly trained in both internal medicine and soft tissue surgery. A limited amount of orthopedic surgery is performed by our staff, including FHO’s, MPL surgery and fracture fixations with IM pinning. More complicated orthopedic procedures are performed by an outside specialist that comes into the clinic as needed.

Our clinic maintains state of the art equipment including, but not limited to: SOUND digital radiology, Telemed capable Ultrasound, Dental radiology, cloud based software, advanced surgical modalities such as radiosurgery and Vessel Sealer ligation, comprehensive blood machines (Idexx procyte, 2 catalysts, PT/PTT), ISTAT blood gas and Truforma in house thyroid and cortisol panels. We also have a comprehensive pharmacy in stock at all times.

Due to our rural location and lack of competitive veterinary practices that offer the services we do within a 10-mile radius, our clinic stays very busy and continues to grow every year. We are in high demand as a part of the UF College of Veterinary Medicine Practice Based Clerkship because the students love the diversified experience and mentorship they get in wellness, internal medicine, surgery and critical care/surgery.

This year we are very excited to be expanding Trenton Animal Hospital! We will be adding ~1200 SF of space to the existing building to accommodate more exam rooms, boarding area and a new doctor’s office and break room for the staff. We will also be remodeling our isolation wing and surgical recovery area.

We are also please to announce the creation of TriCounty Veterinary Emergency Clinic! Our new building is located halfway between Trenton and Newberry Florida, about 20 minutes west of Gainesville. This satellite clinic will offer after hours emergent care and surgery to thousands of individuals spanning west, north and south of Gainesville. Tentative Hours of Operation will be Monday-Friday 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm, Saturday and Sunday 2:00 pm-9:00 pm. Veterinarians will not have to work overnight shifts. We will also be using this location to expand our low cost spay and neuter program one day weekly and for overflow surgical cases from our main location.

I am very flexible with hours and duties. If you are a new graduate applying for a position then a minimum of 1-year full time work and mentorship would be required at Trenton Animal Hospital before emergency shifts could be scheduled. If you have emergency and critical care experience then hours are very flexible, but I would need at least 3 TriCounty ER shifts covered per week. Several of my full-time associates have shown interest in a 3-day workweek option so 3 12-14 hours days working at both locations then the rest of the week off which is an option! Again I am open to arrange the schedule to what meets my employee’s needs!

Required Skills:

New graduates interested in the position: confidence, interest in internal medicine and critical care, ability to multi-task, ability to maintain a heavy work-flow, open for mentorship/constructive advising, passion for surgery.

Experienced Veterinarians or Newer graduate with atleast 2 years critical care/emergency experience-confident in triage, critical care medicine and minor surgical procedures. Skilled at ultrasound and interpretting radiology. Severly criticial patients will need to be stabalized prior to transport to UF CVM.
