Job Title: Waste Water Treatment Operator

Department: Base Operations and Maintenance

Job Summary:

The Waste/Water Treatment Operator will perform extensive water lab work and troubleshoot water treatment and control equipment. Will also be responsible for overseeing industrial wastewater operations, including wastewater treatment equipment and facilities, storage facilities, and daily wastewater sampling, in compliance with applicable permits and guidelines

  • None

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Provide preventative maintenance, changing filters, UV lamps, batteries, and upgrades to equipment
  • Provide troubleshooting; Reading and reporting pressure gauge and flow meters, detecting leaks, using a multi-meter, performing water sampling tests
  • Make repairs, stop leaks, tighten fittings, and replace valves, fittings, tubing, electrical wires, and components
  • Occasional emergency service calls during normal (or off) business hours
  • Complete and submit all paperwork promptly
  • Collects water samples for analysis in the laboratory either onsite or sent out to determine the effect of water on the environment
  • Assist with the installation of compliance measures for the treatment facility
  • Troubleshoots high water usage problems and suggests water conservation ideas to prevent future complaints
  • Updates files and reports to ensure accurate information
  • Disconnects and reconnects services within time performance standards
  • Test water meters on a regular schedule and for verification of high, low or missed readings
  • Records and reports meter registration, defects, and conditions
  • Maintain all records related to water treatment operations, testing, and work orders

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Proficient in written and oral communication skills according to skill requirements
  • Possess strong computer skills, able to read, write, and comprehend written instructional documents
  • Ability to function well in a high-paced and, at times, stressful environment
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume
  • Ability to apply concepts of introductory algebra and geometry
  • Proficient Microsoft Office productivity suite

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • At least two years of related experience required
  • Certification in Grade I waste water treatment, Grade II water treatment and Grade I distribution

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Occasional periods of prolonged exposure to loud noises
  • Ability to lift up to XX pounds at times
  • Ability to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands as necessary
  • Ability to hear and see to position and safety requirement levels
  • Occasional exposure to elements such as heat, cold, noise, dust, dirt, and chemicals

Special Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Must be able to successfully pass as required a federal, state, or local government's background investigation
  • Valid state driver's license
