The Town of Franklin’s Department of Public Works (DPW) is seeking candidates for a Water Operations position (L4). The Water Operations Person is assigned to the Water Department and works Monday through Friday from 7:00a to 3:00p.
The primary purpose of the Water Operations Person is to operate and maintain Franklin’s water treatment facilities, water pump stations, water booster stations, and water storage tanks. This position has day to day responsibility for the quality and safety of the Town’s drinking water supply and distribution as overseen by the Water Treatment Foreman (L7).
The preferred candidate will possess the Grade D-1 and T-2 Massachusetts Drinking Water Operator Licenses. If the candidate does not have these licenses, they must obtain them within 1 year of hire. Upon obtaining these licenses, the Water Operations Person is eligible for additional stipends amounting to $4,200 annually.
The Water Operations Person is a member of the DPW team and although primarily assigned to Water, may also perform work for the Highway, Grounds, or Sewer Departments. This position is expected to respond to emergency situations and perform plow operations in the winter, which will result in substantial overtime opportunities.
The Water Operations person must have or obtain the following licenses within 365 days (12 months) of hire:
valid MA Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class B with an air brake endorsement
hoisting license to operate loader, backhoe, excavator, catch basin cleaner, and special side boom mower (DPS 2A, 4E, and 4G)
The selected candidate will be required to successfully complete a background investigation and a pre-employment physical exam, including a drug test.
