Position Location: Naknek, AK

Reports to: Construction Manager
FLSA Status: Temporary, Non-Exempt Compensation: Starting Wage of $25-$30/hr DOE plus completion bonus. Housing, food and transportation provided by the Company

Position Term: 3/1/2023-6/15/2023

SUMMARY

Northline Seafoods is seeking welders to assist in completing the fabrication and construction of our floating seafood processor in Naknek, AK. The ideal candidate will have a background in shipyard welding methods and will be capable of working independently and in teams on different projects. The chosen candidate will be expected to work up to 60 hrs/week, depending on project requirements.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

• Welding steel in all positions for the following types of projects: o Tanks and fish processing equipment o Structural steel in all positions for hull replacement (up to ¾” steel)
• Selection and setup of appropriate welding equipment and methods based on project requirements
• Welding project prep, including workspace and material planning, moving heavy material with forklifts, grinding, fixturing, measuring, etc.
• Testing and inspecting welded surfaces for flaws
• Cutting steel using plasma, oxy acetylene, propane and other cutting methods
• Maintaining equipment in a condition that does not compromise safety

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• 2+ years welding experience with steel (aluminum welding experience a plus!)
• Competency in at least two of the following in all positions: MIG, TIG, and SMAW (stick)
• Knowledge of construction site best practices and safety procedures
• Experience with manual and power tools
• Highschool diploma/GED preferred
• Additional consideration will be given to candidates with: o Professional certifications o Successful completion of an apprenticeship or General Mechanic Aptitude

This job operates in an outdoor shipyard in rural Alaska. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be regularly exposed to wet, cold and/or humid conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee may be occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particulars, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock and vibration, and/or foreign objects resulting from welding activities. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk for prolonged periods of time. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, twist and bend, as well as talk and hear. The position requires the employee to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Vision abilities required by this job include distance vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.
