The Aquatic Specials fulfills many roles within the Aquatics Department.

As a lifeguard, the AQ Specialist is responsible for ensuring the safety of the facility patrons by preventing and responding to emergencies as well as enforcing all facility rules and regulations.

As a Swim Instructor, the AQ Specialist provides skill-based swim and water safety instruction to people of all ages. Maintains constant supervision of students to ensure safety. Creates positive, nurturing relationships with students and builds cooperative relationships with parents and caregivers. Promotes and supports the potential of all students in program. Facilitates peer-to-peer connections as part of the overall program experience.

As a Swim Instructor, the AQ Specialist also plans and implements program activities that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate, and consistent with YMCA values Adheres to program standards, including safety and cleanliness standards, and ensures consistency with evidence-based practices.

As a Swim Coach, the AQ Specialist is responsible for leading a lane or small group of the YMCA (MYST) Swim Team. Duties include developing practices, running structured safe workouts, and staying within the principles and practices of MYST and the McGaw YMCA.

Experience/Education/Certification Requirements:

• Must be lifeguard certified
• Must enforce policies, rules and regulations of the Aquatic Center.
• Maintain confident command of the emergency action plans.
• Required to attend all in-service trainings.
• Must be comfortable with children in deep water.
• Must complete all assigned daily records and Incident/Accident reports.
• Must have knowledge of Competitive Swim Skills
• Completes other projects as assigned.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: Up to $18.85 per hour
