First Presbyterian Church of Arlington Heights is seeking a Director of Children and Youth Ministries to begin working no later than July 1.

We are seeking someone who possesses:

  • A passion for teaching children (birth – 12th grade) how to live and love like Christians.

The position is part time (40 hours per week) and offers a salary of $60,000 annually with two weeks paid vacation, sick leave and medical insurance.

We prefer candidates who align with PC(USA) theology, but candidates who come from theologically similar mainline traditions are more than welcome to apply.

Job Description

POSITION: Director of Children and Youth Ministries

PURPOSE: To provide leadership and support for all programming and events that affect families with children pre-K through college students.

ACCOUNTABILITY: To the Session of the First Presbyterian Church of Arlington Heights, through its Personnel Committee, under the supervision and leadership of the Pastor, Head of Staff

COMPENSATION: $60,000 (40hrs/week – 2 weeks of paid vacation, sick leave and medical benefits)

SUPERVISOR: Pastor, Head of Staff

ACCREDITATION: Seminary education preferred or relative work experience

YOUTH RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Envision and develop the youth ministries program, creating curriculum for youth Sunday school and youth groups.
  • Guide, administer and support 6th/7thgrade Sunday school (“Y-Search”), 8th grade Sunday school (“Confirmation”) and Senior High Sunday school, leading classes where necessary and guiding, training and supporting teachers in their ministry with youth.
  • Create, plan and lead Youth Group for both Middle School and Senior High students. This includes leading Bible studies, supporting youth group leaders, and providing all necessary staff support for the health of the program.
  • Minister to youth and their families, providing the appropriate pastoral care in conjunction with the other pastoral staff.
  • Serve as staff support to Collegiate Ministry Initiatives, assisting volunteers in planning and offering meaningful ministry, mission and events for college age students.
  • Provide presence and leadership to all youth special events (retreats, lock-ins, seasonal events, and mission trips).

CHILDREN RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide leadership and execute overall vision for the spiritual growth and formation of children through our Kingdom Sunday School and Kid’s Connect program.
  • Recruit volunteers to be teachers and shepherds for Sunday school and Kid’s Connect, providing regular training, encouragement, and resources.
  • Provide comprehensive, systematic and age-appropriate teaching material that will ensure biblical and theological literacy by either personally developing or researching and recommending curriculum for all children’s programs.
  • Create opportunities for mission and outreach so that children develop an understanding of how to place their faith into practice.
  • Work collaboratively with the Music Ministry to ensure participation in music programs/children’s choirs.
  • Effectively communicate and partner with parents in the ministry to children.
  • Oversee the Nursery Coordinator in establishing childcare for worship and programs.

COMMITTEE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Participate in monthly Youth Ministries Committee meetings, review monthly agenda from the chair, presenting program plans and receiving counsel from the committee.

SPECIAL EVENTS AND TRAININGS:

  • Arrange for Safe Sanctuary training to be completed by all adult volunteers who will be working with children and ensure that all appropriate Safe Sanctuary paperwork is completed and up-to-date.
  • Collaboratively direct and lead the Children’s Christmas Pageant as part of the traditional Christmas Eve worship.
  • Vision, design, and direct the weeklong Vacation Bible School program during the summer.
  • Plan, coordinate, lead and fundraise with YMC middle school and high mission trips (Jun.-Aug.)
