Job description
PRIMARY FUNCTION: The Youth Development Specialist executes the daily lesson plans and activities while providing a safe environment emotionally and physically for our members. Works to provide direction for children and manage behaviors in a positive way. Additionally provides a quality experience for children and parents. Focus on building achievement and relationships among youth and families. Mentoring youth in the areas for Character & Leadership Development, Education & Career Development, Health & Life Skills, The Arts, and Sports, Fitness & Recreation.
Interested candidates must be available to work 2:00-6:30pm, Monday-Friday.
KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities):
Prepare Youth for Success
- Create an environment that facilitates the achievement of Youth Development Outcomes: promote and stimulate program participation; register new members and participate in their club orientation process; provide guidance and role modeling to members. Program Development and Implementation
- Effectively implement and administer services and activities for drop-in members and visitors.
- Monitor and evaluate programs, services and activities to ensure safety of members, quality in programs and appearance of the branch at all times. Prepare periodic activity reports. Supervision
- Ensure a productive work environment by participating in staff meetings as required by supervisor or senior staff.
- Adhere to organizational policies and procedures as described in the organization's Employee Handbook and elsewhere.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- May participate in special programs and/or events.
- May be required to drive Club van.
RELATIONSHIPS: Internal: Maintains close, daily contact with Club staff (professional and volunteer), Club members, and supervisor to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain guidelines/instructions; instruct; and advise/counsel. External: Maintains contact with external community groups, schools, members' parents and others to assist in resolving problems.
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
- High School diploma or GED with a preference for 48 college units.
• Experience in working with children. • Knowledge of youth development.
• Ability to motivate youth and manage behavior problems. • Ability to deal with the general public.
• Ability to plan and implement quality programs for youth. • Ability to organize and supervise members in a safe environment.
• Ability to work independently and as a member of a team. • Interpersonal skill development and maintenance.
• Food Handlers Card (will provide training). • Mandatory CPR and First Aid Certifications (will provide training).
- Must be 21 with a Valid State Drivers License to operate a company vehicle.
