About the Position:
The Executive Communications Director will be a key member of the Strategic Communications Leadership team working with the office of the president to align internal and external communication efforts reflecting the vision and mission of the University. Works with the Chancellor’s Office, VP communications teams and Chief of Staff to ensure messaging is aligned with the CSU mission, president’s vision and CSUF brand. Will work closely with and may serve as a delegate for the Chief of Staff and ensures the president is prepared for all events.
The position is key in developing and disseminating messaging for issues management and crisis communication and works discreetly on sensitive assignments with sound judgement maintaining the trust and confidence of the University President, senior leadership and staff.
Participates in weekly content planning group and Strategic Communications Leadership team. The position will lead research, planning and writing a wide range of communications including speeches, campus announcements, donor collateral, signature publications, position briefings, podcasts, video, social content, marketing, promotional, policy related communications, and opinion columns for regional and national media outlets.
The incumbent will be conversant with higher education issues and trends affecting the institution. Maintains editorial content on the Office of the President website.
Essential Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university in a related, applicable field and a minimum of five years of related professional experience researching, writing, editing, and proofing diverse editorial content, sometimes within highly condensed timeframes. Demonstrated ability to adapt writing to reflect the character, voice, and expressions of another person (e.g., an organization's chief executive). Experience in, knowledge of, and ability to synthesize and express complex public-policy issues related to higher education in California and the nation. Demonstrated ability to understand differing stakeholder audiences and differing content environments, adjusting editorial content accordingly. In-depth knowledge of overall university communication objectives. Ability to work independently, exercising sound judgment. Ability to understand issues from a broad, strategic perspective. Expert networking and interpersonal skills including strong consultative and persuasive skills to work with internal and external constituents. Demonstrated organizational skills. Proficiency in the use of general office equipment, Windows-based personal computers, and appropriate MS Office, administrative, and online content management applications.

CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.
