We are currently looking for an Accountant in the Hagerstown office to serve the Administrative department of SEK.


This professional position performs various daily accounting functions. Responsible for payroll processing, maintenance of fixed asset system, depreciation schedules and assists Controller with financial closing process, preparation of monthly journal entries, balance sheet account reconciliation, cash verification and other duties assigned. Supports and follows through with the vision, mission, goals, and objectives of SEK CPAs & Advisors. This position reports to the Controller.

Our professionals are recognized for their expertise in accounting, auditing, and tax functions. We have also established specialty areas such as business valuation, employee benefit planning and administration, estate planning and compliance, and small business consulting.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Regularly prepares and processes payroll.
  • Performs computer input and enters monthly journal entries into the accounting software system.
  • Oversees accounts payable and accounts receivable processes.
  • Compiles financial data and completes comprehensive industry surveys.
  • Maintains and reconciles general ledger accounts for real estate entities.
  • Maintains W-9 documentation and annually prepares 1099’s.
  • Supports Controller with special projects and accounting related tasks.
  • Identifies and recommends changes that will enhance or improve current processes.

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or a closely related business field
  • 2+ years of professional accounting experience
  • Strong and effective mathematical and clerical skills, with the ability to accurately compile, prepare and verify detailed information
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Experience with accounting software
  • Thorough knowledge of general ledger accounting and account reconciliation
  • Highly detail-oriented
  • Strong and effective written and spoken (English) communication skills, including the ability to prepare and present reports in a clear, concise and effective manner
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to communicate effectively across the organization
  • High level of ethics and integrity. Must demonstrate ability to handle confidential information.
  • Proficiency with QuickBooks, Bill.com, MS Word, Excel and Outlook preferred
