General Description / Primary Purpose
This position generally handles all department’s accounts receivables, to include the determination of assessments of rent and assistance in the collection of rent; in addition, this position assists in and inputs damage assessment charges, and maintains resident student’s housing accounts. This position also assures compliance with the department policies which prohibits occupation of rooms prior to paying or the pending of assessed rents. Keeps current with housing residential management software (StarRez). Prepares mails money log and completes housing deposits, imports/exports and reconciles financial data between the University system and the residential management system. Complete third party billing for student accounts. This position requires a positive, self-motivated person with excellent interpersonal communication skills, willing to work in an environment requiring strong emphasis on providing superior customer service in conformance with the University’s mission and values. The Department of Housing and Residence Life is measured by its ability to successfully interact with students and to assist in their individual needs and concerns. To this end, the Accountant will often be required to demonstrate a caring a patient attitude, utilize conflict resolution skills, and to ensure that every effort is made to create satisfied students. This position maintains proper file documentation, along with the highest standards of professional conduct and ethical behavior.
Essential Duties
Job Function
Accounts Receivable
a) Manage and review student housing accounts and provide management reports for the Assistant Director on any outstanding accounts
b) Utilize and maintain various computerized housing screens, audit student accounts, analyzes, verifies and edits data via computer
c) Create requested reports for Assistant Director
d) Meet individually with prospective/current housing students to develop their financial payment plan, which may include Financial Aid, Scholarships, Grants, Florida Prepaid Program, and availability of cash. Assist with recommendation to resolve any financial issues.
e) Responsible for remaining current on all policies and procedures regarding the collection and assessment of rental and miscellaneous fees
f) Responsible for maintaining and updating the residential management system and Banner (as needed) with regards to rental assessments, damage assessment, damage deposits, processing fees, and other miscellaneous fees as appropriate
g) Bill third party vendors for rent assessments in a timely fashion
h) Monitors Financial Aid distribution to assure correct payment for rental fees are received
i) With approved written authorization from the student, provides housing payment and credit history to requesting outside off-campus agencies, in a timely fashion
j) Develop and maintain a strong working relationship with the Controller’s Office and Financial Aid to maximize quality service to our student population
k) Notify the Assistant Director of delinquent student accounts to assure that appropriate University housing procedures are followed
l) Responsible for the management, oversight, and follow-up of the RAPP Plan, including any modified RAPP Plans m) Remain timely in responding to all correspondence (telephone and voice mail messages, faxes and e-mails) from students, parents and other outside constituencies

Required Qualifications
A high school diploma and three years of experience directly related to the job functions. Directly related college coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.
