DESCRIPTION OF WORK:

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits.

About Harnett Correctional Institution:
Harnett Correctional Institution is located in Lillington, North Carolina and houses up to 988 male offenders in a medium custody facility.This position is currently located within the Department of Public Safety but will transfer to the Department of Adult Correction when it is established on January 1, 2023.

Reporting to the Correctional Administrative Sergeant, this position will function in the centralized mail processing center of a male medium custody facility. Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: Sorting, inspecting, and distributing offender mail.
Processing and handling legal mail and incoming/outgoing mail and packages.
Fulfilling distribution needs for both the facility and offenders, ensuring all policy and procedures are applied for the safety and security of the general public and staff.
Lifting, pulling, and pushing in excess of 10 pounds to move large bins of mail and/or packages.
Responding to offender inquiries concerning mail.
Utilizing Offender Banking System to enter funds received for offenders.
Working knowledge of office practices and procedures.
Functioning independently and possessing good communication skills, both verbally and written.
Operating a computer to include Microsoft Office software, such as Excel, Outlook, and Word.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
