Apex Systems is looking for a Lab Coordinator to join one of our pharmaceutical clients ONSITE in Morrisville, NC for a 6 Month Contract-to-Hire opportunity!

Title: Lab Coordinator

Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm

Length: 6 month contract to hire

Location: Morrisville, NC

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and track laboratory inventory of both chemical and non-chemical supplies (including materials, reagents, kits, general lab supplies, and other items for testing operations) while supporting disposal of expired inventory according to compliance and safety guidelines.
  • Transfer/ship samples, supporting documents, and/or testing materials as requested while tracking chain of custody (COC).
  • Submit purchase orders for processing, track list of orders, and organize received orders. May include reading through new protocols and methods to order supplies; communicating the arrival of supplies to support testing operations.
  • Support analysts with maintenance of disso/water baths and sonicators, calibrations, CDS witnessing, inventory form submissions, laboratory cleaning, quarantine/disposal of samples as well as labeling of samples, notebooks, and logbooks as needed.
  • Inspect and remediate labeling of instruments, replacement of desiccants, and other laboratory materials/equipment as requested.
  • Support sample tracker audits, and tracking of testing operations for SMA laboratories.
  • Engage in testing operations support across SMA laboratories and other departments.
  • Identify process/continuous improvement (CI) opportunities and participate in CI initiatives.
  • Assist in clean-up and 5S of laboratory space.
  • Ensure and enforce a safe, organized, and clean work environment by performing routine laboratory cleanliness checks.
  • Ensure laboratory waste is appropriately labeled and removed as per safety guidelines.
  • Ensure/ enforce laboratory and staff compliance with OSHA and EHS regulations (escalating non-compliance to appropriate channels).
  • Execute safety inspections and participate in QA walk throughs of SMA laboratories as required.
  • Other duties as appropriately assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma (STEM focus) with 3+ years of safety/coordination experience in a similar laboratory setting, OR
  • Associates Degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Life Sciences, or similar, OR
  • Enrollment in an accredited university with 2 years of course completion in BS/BA Chemistry, Biochemistry, Life Sciences, or similar

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Utilization of analytical balances and preparation of volumetric solutions
  • Wet chemistry laboratory skills

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge and proficiency in MS Office suite (i.e. excel, PowerPoint, word, etc.).
  • Passion for organization and identifying continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Ability to engage, communicate, and collaborate as a team and as an independent contributor.

Physical Requirements:

  • On an average 8-hour day this position requires the ability to walk, sit and stand, use hands to handle or feel, reach with hands and arms at or above shoulder height and below waste height, clime or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk, hear, smell, and lift up to 40 pounds.
  • Specific vision requirements including reading of written documents, visual inspection of materials and frequent use of computer monitor screen.
  • May require the use of a respirator.

Working Conditions and Environment:

  • This position will be stationed in an office and laboratory environment involving work near moving/mechanical parts; working around various chemicals including biologics, active pharmaceuticals, beta-lactams and radioactive materials, and other conditions reasonably expected due to the nature of the work required.
  • Position may require domestic or international travel.
  • May need to work outside of normal business hours of 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
